Never had a pearl but I did have the 7100G (at&t) which had the same keyboard layout just bigger.
I hated it. I much preder the full qwerty keyboard models. So, I'd go w/ the curve but as vndlewis said, you should probably just get your hands one both models and see which feels best to you
