At this point you could take an iphone 7 replace the apple with a BlackBerry and I can almost certainly say it wouldn't sell. BlackBerry proves it can make a great phone but that doesn't seem to matter. Why???

i dont think its quite as bad as you put it. The passport is an odd duck on a OS that wasnt as consumer friendly as iOS or Android.

Compatibility matters to most people. Most people aren't fans of one platform or another and couldn't care less about the corporate fortunes.

What they want is a phone that works with all the services and other gadgets in their lives with minimal fuss. Ideally they want all of that at a fair price, which is why most buy Android phones.

If passport had the apps it would have a solid ground. The design is beautiful. Plus trackpad keyboard is pretty innovative. If bb10 had apps and passport 2 with fp scanner and better cameras overall existed, I believe it would sell as much for continuing the manufacturing. Too bad Google absurdly denies 1:1 aspect ratio.

This isn't what happened. Google worked with BlackBerry to get Android on the Passport, they waived the aspect ratio requirements especially for them, and were even modifying Google Play Services to make it fully compatible. However, BB and Google mutually agreed that it wasn't worth the expense to make a custom version of Android for a single device with a low sales figure. Google bent over backwards for them, but it just wasn't to be.

The only thing absurd is the amount of work necessary to get all of Android working effectively on 1:1, which is why it was dropped.

Consumer Friendly? It's the customer who wasn't friendly to the BlackBerry brand in general. Your statement reads as if the OS is flawed it isn't. It is the app development that was sadly lacking.

Totally backwards. BlackBerry should have made the Passport narrower and taller . It would have sold better and would have been Android ready for most components.

No, Google's decision to not support 1:1 is absurd from the beginning. I'm not even taking passport into account. Some stupid rule.

Of course, seeing as how there's so many 1:1 resolution phones out there. On top, since all media, apps and the Internet are designed for 1:1 screens, it should have been easy.

    Oh wait...

The PP was truly something that needed to be taken for a test drive before purchase but unfortunately by the time it was released retail stores were reluctant to display BlackBerry phones, let alone carry them in stock.

That's not entirely true, I know a lot of folks here in the US who where loyal to the brand and felt that Blackberry let them down with the Playbook and not promoting and supporting the brand more here. I know folks who still say that Blackberry deserted them.

Stop the spin, his comments were regarding the OS not being consumer friendly. We are NOT speaking of what BlackBerry did or didn't do with respect to how they treated the consumer. My comments are in reference to the consumer who didn't respond to the brand BlackBerry . It's not an OS issue as the poster has mentioned. Let the PlayBook rest in peace. The Samsung note 7 is having issues even after the battery issue has occurred, with replacement devices also catching afire. Yet they are still selling millions more than the BlackBerry devices why is that?

Any platform that fails to give consumers basic (out of the box) features like 'apps', 'music purchases', and 'movie rentals', is in fact a flawed and busted platform.

No one would willingly give up an established ecosystem for a 'hub', '2 swipe gestures', and a basic 'file manager' .

They had all that at launch except for some apps misinformation at its best. It's Chen who did the cuts.

Actually the Passport was designed and BlackBerry World slashed was done before Chen took the reins of Blackberry. He admitted that he choose to release the Passport when he could have easily not took a chance on it and cancel the project.

At launch BB10 had no first tier apps. You can't launch a new platform with no market share and no app ecosystem. It was Heins (and all of the old guard) that was responsible for BB10 OS's failure.

They had a number of major apps , it's with the botched launch and subsequent failed sale. They lost what they had. At least Heins had enthusiasm for BlackBerry 10 just inexperience did him in. The old guard had their issues but Chen has no vision nor plan.
