Doesn't really serve an great purpose, but if you've seen an S6 it looks frigging awesome, and the wow factor is what BlackBerry desperately need right now

Supposedly (...and this comes across as a bit of an unintended side effect (EDIT: "serendipitous", if you like :7)), the edges give a really nice and smooth tactile sense to the bezel swipe-in side menus, that were added with Android Lollipop's "material design" UI overhaul.

I can already feel that with the regular Passport, compared to the Z30 -- the height difference between the glass and the frame adds a bit to the radius of the curve, that one's thumb glides nicely over, without hitching.
