You can't run the Palm applications, but you can import your Palm calendar, tasks, and memos into Outlook. BlackBerries use Outlook as their PIM application. The Device Switch Wizard in Desktop Manager is supposed to help you import files from the Palm to the BlackBerry, but I've noticed some folks having problems getting it to recognize their Palm. You can probably also export from the Palm directly to Outlook, then sync from Outlook to your BlackBerry.
Thank you JeffH - I'll be working on that!
I agree with JeffH, it sounds like you had a treo or just some palm. Most likely what you will need to do is switch your pim conduits to Outlook instead of palm desktop. If you don't have the option check your installation disk that came with your palm device. There will be an option to download the conduits. Or back up your data and just down load desktop 6.2 run and select outlook as your pim manager. Ok then snyc your palm device with outlook and then snyc your BB with outlook now your up to date. If you no longer have your palm device and only have your pim data on the palm desktop this will make much harder but still it can be done. You will need to export the pim data from Palm Desktop then import it to outlook there are programs that can help you with this.
If anyone can clean my post up that would be great. The info I shared is correct but my sentances run together and I can't spell.
Sorry
Thanks

So I have to have Outlook? I only have Outlook Express, and I want to get all my Palm data loaded from my PC onto my Pearl. What does it cost to get the full Outlook on my aging PC?
I apparently could sync my Palm PC data with Yahoo, then from Yahoo to the Pearl, but then a two-way perilous sync to get current memos etc. on my PC.
Should I have stayed with the Palm format and gotten a--now don't freak out-- Treo? I like the Pearl! Woe is me! And further complication is that the wife has her address book on the Palm PC program (but has no actual Palm PDA).
(My carrier is Alltel, which was not on the list.)
@El Lobo. The prices vary from vendor to vendor. Check out the
ones in your area or online.
For now though you can download a 60 day trial of Outlook and
at least get your info synced over correctly.

Well, I made do with Yahoo! as the transfer agent from Palm to Pearl. Yahoo is my new PC home for PIM stuff. It worked pretty well, though there are still some glitches, like duplicated appointments in the synch. I got the addresses and the calendar and the notes, though the last are truncated.
How do I expand the size of the notes on the Pearl, anyone know?
Thanks for the help.
There's no way to expand the size of the Notes with the native software. Each one is limited to about 3 single-spaced pages of text, at least when synched with Outlook. That's a pretty long "note," but no substitute for Word.

Has anyone tried Companion Link?
It claims to be able to sync a Blackberry with the Palm Desktop software. Does anyone have any good or bad thing to say about it?:)
Sure do ... and it's all good! I found out about CompanionLink at another post in this forum (I think) and tried out the Pro version (15 day trial). It allows me to synch Contacts, Calendar, Notes, ToDo -- i.e the works! Fantastic! I'm running the Pro version as a trial but expect to be buying it. 100 bucks -- well worth it for me.
OK I have a few quibbles about not being able to synch all Contact fields --- Main, Other, Custom5 thru 8 for example, but I can synch email and other Contact parameters which I couldn't manage to import using the [export, modify via excel, import via ASCII Importer/Exporter] approach. Plus the big one of course -- I can continue to use Palm Desktop! Almost too good to be true -- somebody pinch me!! :D
Any Qs about palm or treo even winmo switching to BB let me know. my contact info in my sig

I tried to import my data from Palm 4.5 to my BB using the BB import feature. But the dang thing has stalled every time I've tried it. It will transfer 2005 of 2137 calendar entries, then quit cold. So it sounds like I need to either do some sort of 3-way switch with outlook or else try this Companion Link thing?
you mean the Blackberry 8320 with Wifi?
I want a blackberry. Currently I have the Palm Centro. The calendar on the blackberry has a gap between back to back appointments. I need this gap eliminated. Is there an application that I can download that will create a calendar without this 'gap'. I work 10 hour days, back to back appointments and this 'gap' gives me a false opening. Is a blackberry not for me?
I'm not familiar with the gap, can you explain it a little better? Are you asking if you can change the time block that shows on each day?
Are you using Agenda View or Daily View? Try the other view. I don't have a gap between back to back appointments. Could you clarify what you mean?

Agenda view does not give me the time of day down the side of the screen. I want the full day. Daily view is what I was looking at. Example: when I schedule a 1:00 and then a 2:00 there is a 2:00 open 'gap' above the 2:00 appointment. Giving me the false impression that there is a opening. I want that empty field eliminated and the two appointments back to back. A time with an empty field is misleading. Are there other calendar applications available that doesn't do that?
schedule two back to back appointments in the daily view of your calendar. There is an empty field that separates them. That tells me there is a false opening for me to schedule an appointment. I need the appointments back to back with no empty field. This is what it looks like now.
Example:
1:00 Joe
2:00
2:00 Bill
At first look I have 2:00 open. How do I eliminate the blank 2:00???
example:
1:00 Joe
2:00 Bill
How do I make it look like this?
I see. What you are describing as a gap is the space between the 2:00 pm ending time of the preceding meeting and the 2:00 pm beginning time of the following meeting. The duration bars to the left of the times make the distinction. Unfortunately I can't find any way to turn that off in daily view. Pocket Informant for the BlackBerry, Welcome to WebIS.net - Pocket Informant BlackBerry, is one 3rd party app you might consider. It doesn't replace the calendar app, but rather puts a different user interface on top of it.
Thank you! It is difficult to explain but easier to demonstrate. I will look into this other app. and see if it will help. I really want away from the Palm, however it seems to be the only calendar that works for me. My situation is that the calendar is more important than the phone. I hate my predicament! Really want a blackberry! Thanks for your patience and help!
If Pocket Informant doesn't work for you, you might be able to use Agenda View in a work-around. If you turn off "Show End Time in Agenda View", the appointments will stack together with no gap. If you enable "Show Free Time in Agenda View", Agenda View will show the entire day.
Try using Agendus from Iambic. I used it on my Palm Treos for years, and they have a version for Blackberry. It uses the BB app data, so there's no duplication. Much more customizable interface, though.
In fact, if you have it for your Palm, they'll discount a copy for Blackberry.
