Hi all. I am new to the Blackberry world. I owned an I phone 3G S as my first smart phone from ATT a few years back. I liked it ok but am not a big fan of the touch screen. I told my ATT rep this but he pushed an Android on me after my contract was up and I told him I didnt want an iphone again. This was the LG Phoenix and it was alright but still not a touch screen fan. I am not yet up for an upgrade. I saw on ATT site you can buy an older Blackberry called the Pearl 9100 3G for under two hundred dollars. I was wondering what your opinions are of this phone? I know its not the brand new top of the line but I just want something reliable and not touch screen.
I personally like it, a smartphone disguised as a feature phone .
Love the multitap of the 9100, best in the pearl series. Perdictive input is quite impressive but i was never a fan.
With multitap i have written 7-page documents during boring flights. It replaced my laptop.
Former owner on a 8100, 8120, and 8220.
The 8100 got me started with berries.
Add bis service and this little device becomes a workhorse. Hopefully we can see a bb10 version of the pearl.
Pearl 3G is a perfect phone if you like something small, you'll love it. If not get a BB that feature full QWERTY keyboard, like the Bold 9700/9780 or a Curve
I agree with the two posters above. If you want a small phone then the 9100 is a good choice. The 9700 is an awesome phone in my opinion. I believe the 9100 and 9700 have the same internals so it just comes down to size and keyboard preference. You'll also want to try both OS 5 and OS 6 and decide which one you prefer.
I have been using the Pearl for over a year with no problems. I still use OS5. Great for BBM, text and email of course (5 email accounts). Some good apps available, just depends on your needs.
I couldn't be happier with my 9100, I'm disappointed that RIM is abandoning this series.
I've tried os6 with my 9100 and had a nasty memory leak with it, frequently dwindled down into the 30's. Went back to os & have remained stable at 100.
Best phone I've ever used. No one makes a phone this size with this feature set. I'll probably pick up a couple as spares since, unfortunately, this looks to be the end of the line for the Pearl.
Wish it was a bit faster, wish the browser wasn't crap. But I've been using the Pearl line since 2008 and I love it. Will be tough to give this guy up!
