    As Per NBC:

U.S. and Mexican officials spent years hunting for a weak spot in his network. The U.S. government official said the Drug Enforcement Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement used traditional wiretaps to zero in on Guzman. At times in the last year, agents were able to intercept BlackBerry messages and other communications.

This notion that the government still can't read your BBM's if they take a notion to is a well and truly busted myth in 2014.

There is no secure wireless communication folks.

Everything I have read says that actually intercepting the messages is very difficult due the encryption. Where they get ya is they just subpeona the records from the servers themselves. At that point it doesn't matter.

Unless this app was created by said entities and is a ploy to lull you into downloading it, hence infecting your own phone.

Seems like a lot of hassle to have to copy and paste simply in order to read. Doesn't exactly allow for a "flowing" conversation.

That's the whole problem. Security isn't sexy or convenient. How bad do you want/need it?

And just on a sidenote about this story, how much is enough? This guy was a billionaire and he couldn't just pack up a ton of cash and leave the business to the next guy in line? Sure, he wouldn't have been off scot-free, but he wouldn't have been the main focus of their investigation.

Greed is good... for law enforcement.
