I'm looking to get back in to Blackberry after being away for a few years. Priority is good physical keyboard and good battery life. Is the Bold 9900 still a good buy or would I be better off going for a newer device like the Classic or the Q10? Is Blackberry still supporting the Bold 9900?

The 9900 would be a great choice for 2007, but not any more. The Q10 or Classic are the only real options in this size. There are still a few die hards using the 9900 but BBOS devices are increasingly becoming nothing more than glorified feature phones.

I use a Q10 and a 9900. The 9900 is only useful for very basic stuff, and even then its functionality is gradually degrading (e.g. it can't always display HTML-formatted emails properly, lots of mobile sites no longer work)

I love the Q10 and prefer it over the Classic but that's personal preference. The Classic is fine, it's just that I find the trackpad isn't particularly useful for BB10.

It would depend on your use case. Keyboard, phone, email, texts. The 9900 does those as good as or better than the Classic and Q10. The battery life isn't as good but you can swap batteries and the JM-1 it takes are currently quite cheap. They're also so small and light that you could easily carry an extra one with you. If you can't get BIS then personally I wouldn't go with a 9900. Not that you can't use one without BIS but BIS makes it so much better.

At the end of the day both OSes are getting limited in terms of apps, particularly big-name apps like Facebook, WhatsApp etc. There are workarounds of course and the BB10 browser is a bit more modern.

I had a Classic and sold it to get an iPhone 6S Plus. The iPhone was fantastic but I realized I didn't use most of its potential and missed BB10. So I sold it and bought both a 9900 and a Passport SE. Love both. I use the 9900 more simply because it is smaller and can be used one-handed.

I think if you like the 9900 size but want BB10 then the Q10 might be the way to go. The trackpad on the Classic just isn't the same as using the trackpad on the 9900. You'd probably end up just using the touchscreen for most things anyway.

At the end of the day it comes down to personal preferences. Depending on your budget perhaps you could get both? Used 9900's can be had for well under $50. If it turns out you really really like it you could buy a new one (they can be had for under $100).

If you are on a budget then perhaps get the Q10 simply for the better browser and no need for BIS (the hub is awesome too).

Oh, you do ask a difficult question.

I was and am still a fan of the 9900. However, now use a Q. Excellent devices that I prefer over the Classic for reasons previously stated in other posts. As for the 9900 or the Q, only can decide based upon your needs. I will say that the BIS is getting harder to come by for me on a global basis.....A pity.

If only BB had possessed the sense to make essentially a 9900 / Q hybrid. That is the Q with a tool belt (although personally I do not need), the smiley keyboard... Oh what could have been.

I have a 9930 and a Q10 and like both of them for different reasons.

I haven't used a Classic, and think the toolbelt would definitely be a plus, but the size and non-removable battery are concerns for me.

Like others have said, it ultimately comes down to what you want in a smartphone.

Considering the 9900 was released 5 years ago, it's still remarkably good at what it does. It has the best physical keyboard of any mobile device I've used.

If you play games and consume a lot of media and use more apps the Q10 or Classic would be better.

First, no, BlackBerry is not supporting the 9900. There have been no updates for years. BB10 is slated to get 2 more security updates, one this year, and the other probably next year.

I agree with what's been posted above, as far as the attributes of the devices go.

So I guess the decision comes down to what you need from the phone. What apps and functions do you need? Is BIS available where you live?

The 9900 is my favorite BB ever. However, OS7 is dead!!!! Therefore your best option is to get a Classic. Or, get a Q5 if you want someone thing for cheap.

I just setup a 9900 and it has been a lot of work! All this work and I still find myself reaching for the Classic at home.

I prefer the Classic's BB10, screen and ability to swipe up to unlock over the 9900.

9900! Anyone that says you cannot do apps or anything other than emails, text and phoning on a 9900 hasn't touched one in years. Care to see my vids for it?

ALL the major apps like Facebook and Whatsapp are working perfectly on 0S7 right now. BB10 is newer, sure, but I have seen threads where these apps are glitchy or don't work anymore.

The re-released 9900 I'm typing this on was made in 2014. A year newer than my 2013 Q10.

Latest, and best, OS7 updates were late 2013. About the time BB10 updates finally made Q10 functionality marginally tolerable. Lol.

Between those choices I'd go with a classic. I loved the 9900 but I think it is too dated. The classic still looks sexy to me and it would satisfy my needs.

Yes, for a 5-year-old device the 9900 is impressive! It still provides the best typing experience I've ever had on a smartphone and the overall size and design are brilliant.

But on the software side it's certainly showing its age. It's very good at what it was designed to do, but BB10 is overall the better OS for me.

Again, it comes down to what you want/need in a smartphone. The 9900 does the basics and a little more extremely well, but if you need even more, the Classic is the way to go.

I'll add to this. BB10 is a lot more efficient to me for multitasking. I can run multiple tiles and just swipe up to get to my next open window. I also prefer the Calendar and Hub of BB10.

However, the size and weight of the 9900 is amazing! It takes me back to when a phone was just a phone. It excels at email, text and phone calls! Email notifications are still the best using BB07 imo.

Watching videos, looking/taking pics, and using the browser easily goes to the Classic.

If you don't mind carrying 2 devices, I'd pick a 9900 and any newer phone of your choice. I happen to always carry 2. 9900 for sure and either a iPhone 6s Plus, Priv or Classic depending on my mood.

If you can only have 1 phone, I'd pick the Classic and be done with it.
