buy the 9700 for full retail. It is on sale right now at at&t for $349. Then sell your 8900 on craigslist.
Just did this with my both my Bold 9000 and my wife's bold 9000.
You can also search the forum blogs.
Clearly the guy is a newb with this being his first post. Why not tell him how to search instead or arrogantly telling to search.
Where did you see it for $349? I just checked the website and its listed at $449 no commitment.
So Dakota is rumored to be the next device coming to at&t and it hasn't come to the field yet. My best guess puts the next blackberry release around June 2010.
My rule of thumb is when you need a new device (or are tired of your current one) buy the best one you can. If you wait you will always be waiting for the next best device. By the time Dakota comes out the rumors will be in full force on the next greatest BB.
Of course consider the source, I haven't paid for a cell phone for probably 10 years, and I use 10+ per year....

I went to my local ATT store and there too the phone full retail was 100 dollars off, but you had to be an existing customer to buy it (dont understand why).. Maybe its a regional thing going on or a "you bought a bold last year lets give you a kinda crappy deal on a new phone since yours is outdated " kinda vibe..
Whats next for att? :
Hopefully getting a better network, but instead they will pay millions to an dead career actor luke wilson to do ad's in which they say att has better smartphones- except for the fact that if the phone only has edge service(because of signal), no matter how nice the phone is will still be slower then most evdo verizon devices on 3g internet, even non smartphones
Well I'm an existing customer so looks like I'm in luck :)
It's true on the price but it may have been a Christmas deal, my wife bought a 9700 for $349 out right as a Xmas present for me.
Went into my AT&T store tonight and walked out with a brand new 9700 for $349 like you said. Happy as could be although the rep looked at me like I was crazy paying the full retail for it.
I also went into the store and paid 349.00. That was the price on the sign customer or not.

Well the title says whats next for AT&T. So forget the pricing. The 9700 is what...a month and half old or so? So still farely new. I would think they will update the crap out of it, new apps, OS(till they get it just right) and offers.
Next one up is the 9100 I believe. Or the supposide touchscreen for AT&T...which I kind of doubt. I personally won't get a 9100 cuz its a pear(no offense!) just can't do the small keypads, I LOVE full physical qwerty, but they do get the trackpad like us :)
They need to bump all new BB cameras/video cameras up a little. the 3.2 takes good photos...but need a nice 5mp(but not like one on the Droid...)
Thats what I think...and supposidly the new droid for at&t BB is supposed to be affraid of.
I personally REALLY think they should expand the 3g network, or push forward on the 4g network. I would really like 3g more of the time like my buddies with verizon....
I bought a curve 8900 the day it came out, also have an 8830 world provided by work. I went and played with the 9700 at the AT&T store and I couldnt find a reason to upgrade my current 8900. Just like you guys, I waited for this phone but I have to admit, not that I was disappointed but it is roughly the same as the one I currently have. Why did RIM put out a phone sllllllliiiightly better than the one they put out a year ago??
So now I see that AT&T has announced on their site that they will be releasing 5 droid phones to include a new phone from Dell, HTC and Motorola. I've carried a BB for about 5 years now however here's my perspective on what they are lacking
1. Better browser - c'mon RIM, whats the holdup with the browser, yes I know we can use opera, etc however take a look at your competitors browsers
2. Better camera - with sony, samsung and others putting out 8mp, why cant RIM put out at least a 5mp on their high end models? I for one would be willing to stay with Blackberry and pay high end price if the phone delivered. what do you guys think?
