Skyfire for BB is in a closed alpha test right now and just on the Bold. The last time a version of it leaked they shut down the servers for a few weeks. It's unlikely we'll see another leak, but hopefully they will expand the Alpha, OR go to an open Beta soon.
The latest version that I received works on the Tour as well

of course it will be a let down, it's nearly as hyped as OS 5. It's just a browser... mobile browser at that. Why would it be any better than any other browser available, besides being flash capable?

I don't think it's really a matter of patience, more of a case where things ALWAYS end up coming to the BlackBerry at a point where they're a day late and a dollar short.

By the time WE see SkyFire, webkit will be old news, and everyone else will have gone onto the next best thing. I think it's more of a case of where us BB owners actually WANT the cool stuff while it's still cool.......
Skyfire isn't tied to webkit. And all webkit browsers aren't going to be phased out by the time Skyfire releases....

The unique OS of the BB world may be great for RIM and for security; but in the end, 3rd party app support suffers. I think it's because you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to make the BB do anything meaningful, but i'm not a programmer, I could be wrong. I will say, though.... In my limited toying with C#, I was able to make a "Hello World" application on my Windows desktop in WAY FEWER steps than it takes on a BB to create the same app.
You are correct on all accounts. The problem with SF is not that it runs through its own servers, its that all BB traffic first runs through RIM. So that on SF it has to run through 2 sets of servers making everything crawl along.

RIM should have figured out and developed the ability for their servers to do what SF is doing at least 5 years ago. The powers that be should be embarrassed into retirement w/o pay, for not realizing that web growth and multimedia would require heavy server side processing.

Java will not work with Flash - period. Therefore it must be done on the server side. Since all traffic is run through their servers, it would seem to me, elementary to provide some level of advanced processing to increase speed throughput and provide a way to utilize flash.

Flash will get to BB; just like Java compatibility arrived just in time to see Flash take over.

I hope they release Skyfire on BB soon. I used it on WM before I switched OS and I thought that it was one of the better browsers that I have used.

This is a little dated, but I did an article when Skyfire pulled the beta originally.

It would be nice for them to release a bets for us...I like 3rd party browsers...I prefer Bolt to Opera but Bolt is still in beta and Opera still pushes faster...Bolt is much cleaner tho...

whats the point then? I'll just stick with the native browser. Once a browser comes out that plays porn, then I will upgrade.
