I would not pay that much. Maybe for $99 on contact. $299 is simply to much money and a pricing error by Nokia.

    Thanks.

I guess it won't hurt them too much. It's already sold out at AT&T. Nokia Lumia 1020 already sold out on AT&T's website - Neowin

    I wouldn't pay $299 myself.

The q10 sold out quickly with the limited pre order stock AT&T had, means nothing they just like to hype everyone else except Blackberry.

At&t orders what they think they can sell, just like the Q10 they didn't anticipate the pre order demand.
    No difference just hype.

Yup. And aside from the camera, comparable specs. It's not only BB not jumping on quad core and 1080p.

Bigger screen, we have expandable storage, barely bigger battery especially when you consider what it might take to power that camera. Same processor, same screen res, lower bluetooth version, lower front facing camera.

The 1020 is a niche phone.

If you want and value a camera that makes anything else seem pale in comparison, you will pay the $300 (or $660 off contract), which, by the way, is less than a $100 (off contract) more than the Q10.

Agree this phone was made specifically for:

    1) Making headlines and getting the Nokia and Windows 8 names into peoples minds.

    2) To appeal to a set group of people that want a smartphone that REALLY is a camera also. Both my wife and daughter carry a small pocket camera... grand-baby. If you figure a good pocket camera is $150 - $300 dollars, this isn't a bad price at all.

Hands-on with the Nokia Lumia 1020

I checked it out on nokia's website, it is all about the camera. They have some cool accesorios for it like a camera grip case and lens attachments.

Like it or not, at least they are offering something unique.

Which is the key... in the end they will sell more 925, 928, 620 or 521... But having this unique device that has caught peoples attention is why they will do that.

Even the fact that it has a BIG UGLY bulge on the back of it is going to be good for them - who is going to confuse that device for an iPhone? Most people think my Z10 is an iPhone, even tough it isn't near the same size.

The original Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Note II from Samsung were $299 on two-year contract at release on most US carriers. I would consider both of those phones to be successful. I think that VZW has released other phones in that price range that did well, too.
