A bill that would stifle in-flight cellular calls despite emerging technologies that finally make them feasible is headed for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Good. The last thing I want to hear while flying is some inconsiderate ***** on the phone. They should allow text messaging though or email. Let's keep it quiet up there.

The ONLY reason we dont have in flight calling right now is because noone wants to deal with 200 people talking in a metal tube for many hours at a time. The devices dont mess with navigation any more than any other electronic device. There are air carriers over seas that are actually putting cell towers onto planes. **** JetBlue is putting WiFi on their planes now.
Emirates airlines has started mobile service on planes and has said they will have data/ and even blackberry service running shortly. Im not very happy about it. I agree that internet/data/texting is ok, but phone calls is are much.
I agree that if I have to sit on some flight and listen to some loudmouth yack about their job/family for an entire flight somebody is going to get hurt.
I read the news. But what makes no sense to me is why is this being made a federal law when it's something that really should be part of airline policy. There is no reason to make it a law. There is already too much stuff that is made law that really shouldn't be law. We are little by little letting our government turn into a socialist and even possibly heading to communistic government despite the fact we vote for people in certain possitions.
But anyways last time I was on an airplane was 1999 I believe, and I don't recall anyone making a cell call at all. Is this such a huge problem that something officially has to be done to remedy it? And does that something have to be a law rather than airline policy? This is what makes no sense to me. It's almost like making a law that you can't curse at work when it should be up to the companies to make policy regarding it. Which is the case in this example. It wasn't even concidered something that should be made a law.

Aside from the problem that government officials (a.k.a. public servants) are wasting their time with things like this, while other, more life-affecting issues go unaddressed, is that enforcement is a necessary follow-up measure that never materializes. Who's going to enforce such a law? Is an Air Marshall going to blow his/her cover for this? Is the flight staff going to report the offender to the local authorities so that the offender can be arrested or issued a summons upon deplaning?
What about international flights? Will the laws only apply while the flight is in US air space?

Wrong.
Have you ever had your phone next to your radio or tv and received a phone call or some other data and that buzzing sound happens? The same thing happens in the headsets that the pilots wear up front. That is why cellphones are not allowed once the main cabin door is closed.

?? That cant be true. If it is, I am sure they have found a way to deal with this since as I mentioned above; You can now use your mobiles on Emirates Airlines flights that are capable of it.

As a frequent business traver, I really don't want to be listening to people on their phones on a plane. I already don't understand what compels someone to make the phone calls they do after landing and taxiing. You can't help hear them and its never something that can't wait a few more minutes.
Wifi would be cool on flights for messaging and browsing but Jet Blue is the only carrier I know of that has it in the US.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that is confused by the "Honey, I'm home!" Calls while taxiing. I love my wife and family as much as the next guy, but that call can wait. Besides, why do I want a bunch of strangers all up in my business and knowing that my baby "just poopied?"
