the only bb for nextel is the p o s that you currently have. I just got one in the beginning of the week and traded that junk in for a sprint tour. I lost my direct connect which is a bummer, but the iden network is not up to the challenge of high speed data transfer needed for blackberry apps.
I thin kyou'll probably have the same 3-4 year wait.
I read somewhere about a possible hybrid, I.e. Sprint voice/data with nextel dc. Could just be all rumor but would be nice. :)

lol at this point i think they would be confirming the rumor just to keep us around
I thought Nextel had died by now. Get a real cell carrier.
Yea Nextel will be gone before another blackberry is sent to them.

nextel still has a big market in latin-america, so don't rule it out
2.5 million subscribers here in mexico, then there's peru, chile, argentina, brazil...
also there's an iden carrier in colombia i believe
Don't forget Telus, they have an iden network as well..
hmm i was in chile back in 2005 and nextel diddnt work out there then, do they work there now?
oh the Nextel iDEN network will be around for a while, with contractors and US government employees, but because of the direct connect feature... don't expect a new blackberry model anytime soon. There will be plenty of choices of regular phones using iDEN for walkie-talkie purposes, though.
The 8350i and the 8330 are almost identical in terms of speed, I have both and they are basically the same units. The only thing the 8350 has over the 8330 is the ability to use wifi, then it's no comparison the 8350 smokes the Curve for browsing.I don't think you will ever see Nextel go away, there are too many companies that need the ptt feature. It may take awhile, but I wouldn't rule out a Tour type of Nextel with ptt in the somewhat near future...say 4 years:(
I love my Nextel 8350i! I have had Nextel for years & nothing beats direct connect. I went through 2 hurricaines in Florida a couple of years ago & I was able to "beep-beep" everywhere instanly when everything else was down for days (across town, panhandle, Tennesee & S. Carolina).
Now with my BB 8350i I am now IMing in 4 differet formats, Multiple e-mail accounts, "PIN"ing, & MMS messaging with full voice, picture, & video attachments. I also love my NFL Live App. posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com

The nextel service became too bad for me around here in Vermont. But I will say, the 8350i was my first Blackberry and I loved it. It will always hold a special place in my heart..lol.
only problem with it is it's slooooooooooow under iDEN, probably worse than EDGE on a GSM phone. Also the processor isn't the fastest either, that NFL Mobile Live app is quite sluggish at times too.
The DC is great, but there are quite bunch of gaps of service coverage in the country. I was in northern california earlier in the year and had absolutely NO coverage... no Phone.. no DC.. no data... no iDEN period. but my Sprint USB dongle worked fine. Thankfully I had my iPhone too, so at least I had a usable phone.
Since I haven't been doing commercial electrical construction, I haven't needed the DC as much anymore, and just recently replaced my 8350 with a Tour on the native Sprint network.... whoa what a difference!! heh. that NFL app launches and connects instantly... pages load fast... email images come in immediately.. and it works with coverage just about everywhere.
oh just to add, if they had only put in a chipset for the 8350 to use EV-DO for data, and the iDEN for phone/DC, that phone would be a more viable option.
I guess though it's not really marketed toward multimedia... it's more an email device, which it's fine for, and talking with DC.
yeah it's great if you're in the south-east. :)

I think that map above is for SouthernLinc's coverage, the other US iDEN network... Nextel's network is the light green areas, and the dark green area is where you would be roaming on SouthernLinc's network if you're service is through Sprint. SouthernLinc also has the 8350i as well...
oh yeah, you're right, just saw the domain name i pulled that from. well that makes my point even more so then. it's a great feature to have... but the coverage sucks.
Ultimately they should just bundle iDEN chipset into the phones as a secondary feature... but primarily be a Sprint phone - so at the very least it can still make a phone call or use the Internet. My Nextel was completely useless in northern california... I would wonder even then, would it be able to make a 911 call? (I was using a Motorola 580 there, not the BB 8350).
