I think when Heins said the tablet would be obsolete in 5 years, I took it to mean that instead of having fully functional 7 or 10" tablets, you would have 7 or 10" input/output devices that would mate to your mobile computing device wirelessly and act like a monitor and keyboard/mouse does on a desktop computer.
That way, you wouldn't have to update it all the time for a more powerful CPU or more RAM.

Would it be an idea to allow our current PlayBooks to dual boot to either the current/upgraded OS OR a dummy tablet OS?

This would allow them to do a proof of concept with current PlayBooks. It would allow us to judge whether or not this is a good idea. It would just cost them the development costs of this new OS which should be minimal. No hardware need be developed.

I think Thor meant that tablets would be dead because most phones in 1 year care gonna be 7 to 10 inches anyways.

This would have the added benefit of taking lemons and making lemonade. It would provide a forward thinking use for a discredited product. If it takes off, they will look prophetic. If not, so what. At least they will be trying something innovative.

I think the press misquoted Thor when he said tablets would be dead in 5 years .. I think he meant 5 weeks. With the decision to kill BB10 on the playbook .. hes effectively killed the Blackberry tablet in the 5 week timeframe..

I'm not sure if the current hardware is powerful able to accomplish this reliably and with decent enough quality.

Part of me also thinks this is just Heins' way to justify a tablet less immediate future to BlackBerry owners. Much like Balsillie saying that one didn't need apps when they could just use the browser.

nope do not want. Let it die. Resolution is lower and i dont see any benefit with an extra 2.8 inches at lower res.

I think that this option is possible. If they enable WiFi Direct or Miramax on both device (and maybe Bluetooth for input) you can get fully functional device which relies on processing power of BB10 phone.

Do you think your eyes can actually tell the difference in resolution? And 2.8inches increase is a 66% increase.

Wasn't the whole bridge concept kind of like a dumb tablet?
If they had flesh out the bridge to allow the playbook to run any app from any phone and still allow it to run apps on its own, they might of had a killer device.

    PlayBook 1024 x 600 on a 7" display vs Z10 1280 x 768 on a 4.2" display.

Oh yeah the resolution and dpi difference will be noticeable.
