    No way!
Windemere will be a 1:1 ratio phone!
1440x1440 will probably be the resolution (rumours)

    Since 2010 ?

With the recent leaks of the 5-inch Display (Seems to clearly be for Windermere *Crosses Fingers*) the Windermere looks like it will be a square 1440x1440 resolution!

That 1920x1080 is definitely the all touch monster that will be coming!

Yes, portrait-oriented display would technically be 1080x1920.

A 1080 device coming has been known from background info in OS builds for quite some time.

This was expected to be the O series (ex Ontario). Rumour has it O series is cancelled, which if true lends credence to the rumour of an octacore device. Heard one rumour that might be the B series, but not substantiated at all AFAIK.

W series (ex Windermere) is thought to be one of the next Q devices like Q30.

Yep agree. ONLY mentioned because it was asked directly. I think when someone says 1080, 1080p, 1920x1080, FHD / Full HD, etc, we all get the message just fine.

I hope, maybe you won't agree... but 1080p is almost old school.. (for high end)
I think 2015, we'll see more and more high end devices with 2k displays...

But I'm fine with 1080p when I get at least 20 hours battery life...

    Since 2010 ?

They are waiting for prices of components to go down, that is I think one of the reason what BlackBerry doesn't want to compete with spec to spec race. So until the price of the 1080 screen goes down to the 480 and 720 class, we are not getting it.

It is good to hear that they are increasing the resolution. IMO the Z10's 356 ppi should be the minimum ppi for all BlackBerry phones since the Z10's screen doesn't have any pixilation that I can see.

Agreed. The only thing that I saw on paper that I didn't like about the Z30 was the 720P resolution. Hopefully now that John Chen is in charge he won't make the same mistake.

You realize 2K is a professional acquisition format that is essentially equivalent to 1080p (a consumer format, and a finishing format). Ultra HD (I think that's what they called it) and 4K are the same way. There are no consumer 4K televisions, just as there are no consumer 2K televisions.

Only PPI matters. And I'm happy with the current 326ppi on the Q10. But if we got something with 400+ ppi, well, I'd be happy with that, too.

Agreed. As I mentioned in my last post, there should be a minimum ppi because 1080p on a large phablet isn't the same ppi on a small phone. As deadcowboy mentioned it's more important to pay attention to the ppi.

I haven't done the math, but if 1080p on a 5" phone is close to the ppi of the Z10 then I'll be happy.

    I believe 1080x1920 on a 5.0" 16:9 screen is a pixel density of 441 ppi.

As the next step after 1080x1920, I think we'll see 1440x2560 for a couple generations of high-end, large screen phones, phablets, and tablets

Yes they likely were. Plus again they had gone with what was best for consumers in their opinion, instead of what consumers wanted.

If the rumours are true, they've dropped this mentality when it comes to their flagship devices.

Agreed. The only thing that I saw on paper that I didn't like about the Z30 was the 720P resolution. Hopefully now that John Chen is in charge he won't make the same mistake.
Yes I was disappointed when it was confirmed Z30 was a 720x1280 display. But now having one, I think it looks great. Still, a 1080 screen would look even better!
