Cool, that'd be nice...but honestly, I was on 3G in Boulder with a G1 prior to switching to the new Javelin 8900 and the 3G wasn't that much faster than EDGE.
By and large, 3G isn't as quick as it should be because a lot of networks seem to still be implementing it. I think that 3G would definitely be cool, but til it's actually fast enough to want, I say it's no biggie.
the 8130, 9530 and the 8330 are ALL 3G CDMA from Qualicom... EVDO is essentially 3G, some are confused because of the sim card thing or whatever... but if you pay attention to commercials or adds it will say 3G... example being Telus with its Largest selection of 3G smartphones.
I believe for a GSM 3G (HSDPA or whatever the acronym is) the Berry will be a 9xxx. Therefore if a Jav style phone with GSM 3G is released, it would be in the 9's.

Then I guess my 8900 from T-Mobile is a 3G device to since EDGE is a 3G technology.
EDGE is within the definition of the ITU as 3G, but it's really 2G/2.5G...EVDO is 3G. 1X is 2G...meh...EVDO Rev 0. is heads-and-tails faster than EDGE...HSPDA is pretty impressive if you can find it.

My EDGE device consistently loads faster than my friends EVDO revision whatever device. Also, the Blackberry Bold was the first true 3G Blackberry.

That's not exactly accurate. EVDO is a 3G technology and the blackberries on sprint, verizon and alltel had 3g long before the Bold showed up on the scene.
Edge Is Actual 2.5g, No Bias! Therefore, EDGE is consideration as 3G.
That's fair, EDGE barely meets the 3g standard. However, if you want to consider which of the blackberries were the first to get high speed data that would have been the EVDO versions. HSPA is truly amazing, but until at&t and t-mobile get their act together EVDO will probably reign supreme.
