Does screen work? Could be internal hardware problems. might just be the screen

Are the new batteries official BlackBerry batteries or third party?

    Another Pearl 9100?

BlackBerry batteries have a chip in them that lets them work with the phone model they are made for. Otherwise, you need one of those code transfer boxes - third party batteries usually include them just for that purpose. The problem is, you need to re-transfer the code to the fake battery every time you reboot or remove the battery. And, you need a charged real BB battery to do that every time.

You should plug the device into an outlet Without the battery in for a few mins, whilst still plugged in ,slip in your new battery. See if that helps, I think that the old battery you had in,possibly messed with the battery memory.
