Hi creackberries,

I'm having issues with the ear speaker on my z10.

The sound used to be fantastic and clearly loud, now I can hardly hear anything when a phone call comes in.

I've tried playing with the audio settings in the settings for phone calls as well as settings under sounds.

Has this happen to anyone else? Please help me fix it.


Ps. Crackberry, you need a live forum on your app. I love the app but when I have questions I have know freaking idea how to post a thread to the folks that know the devices best.

Are the tiny holes on the speaker grill plugged up with dust/dirt?

Did you replace the batteries in your hearing aid?? Nah just kidding, but that would happen to my wife's grandfather all the time... you could tell by his gradual shift from talking to shouting.

Anyway, are you sure you aren't switching to speaker phone while moving the phone towards your ear?

I'm sure you have tried raising the volume while on a call with the volume buttons.

If you use a headset, does it also sound low?

Are you generally in the same network area as when the sound was good.

Do you have any BBM contacts you could try BBM voice with and see if it also affects the sound there.

And finally, are you running a stock OS or a leak?

I believe it may be the dirt in he speakers. I was looking to eliminate all other possible scenarios first.

I sometimes use a magnet to pull away small metal filings but am unable able to pull many from the top speaker.

To clean out the speaker, would that be a blackberry fix or could a service repair company do without affecting the warranty?

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them reeling if you have any other ideas.

Try an app called Alpha Tone. Go through it's frequencies. The Z10 speaker should stop at 16K area of noise production. It's should help to see if there's any cracking of the speaker in the lower tones. I tried it on a Android phone and the speaker crapped out on lower tones. He got it replaced under warranty.
