When upgrading to the 4.5 os for the curve is it necessary to delete the 4.2 os first?
I'm not experienced to know if it would be beneficial or not, but I DID NOT remove 4.3 before updating to 4.5.
you can, but not required. If you do a search for "proper upgrade/downgrade procedure" you'll find all the instructions you need. It states wiping the phone (i.e. removing the old OS) is recommended but not required.
That being said, I've upgraded my Pearl numerous times (I'm up to 4.5.0.89 as of this afternoon), using other carriers' versions, without wiping. I've been using CrackMem and it runs swimmingly.
+1. You don't HAVE to wipe or delete the old OS. When you do an upgrade with DM, it will essentially wipe it for you. However, I personally like to wipe it AFTER doing a backup because I want to make sure that there are no issues with the installation of the new or beta OS.
Here you go, follow this:

I am infamous for running other carrier's OS's and never wipe before a install...
Just one more point. I usually recommend leaving the old OS in
place in case you need to rollback from the OS that you installed.
Just saves you the trouble of reinstalling it or in some cases trying
to find it.
I swear I am gonna go insane of one more newbie who has only just made their first post asks how to upgrade their devices O.S.! **PLEASE** use the search function within the forum!!
thanks now i can sleep at night! :D
haha thats why im in this thread!
word tho, the CB search forums is pretty smart, you just have to keyword your search non-gramatically, like in google...
