media card formatting

i recently updated software from verizon for my pearl and did not remove the media card before i did. it is giving me an error message that the media card is not formatted now. if i format it in the phone, will i lose all the pics/songs/videos i have on it now? or are they already lost?

Yes you will. If you have a card reader, stick the media card in so you can back up whatever you have on it.
