I am in a position in a large organization, where I have many different devices to test and make business decisions on. I have setup all my email, social networking and core apps on all the devices and regularly will take a device for a few days or even weeks and test it. I will honestly "try" to like it. Thing is, I do not consider myself a BB Fanboy, I just like what works and I always come back to my PB and Z10. I honestly thought that maybe the Surface RT, iPad mini or Nexus7 would sway me (I like the 7" tablet format, most 10" are too big/heavy/akward for long use). With CISSP training, Android just scares me plain and simple. IOS is just too simple (aka stupid), and although I kinda liked the RT as a lightweight, long life laptop replacement (but 10"), I did not like it as a tablet.

The thing is I believe the media is plain wrong, they are not objective and are just simple fanboys. I think most users do not know what they need (like lemmings), they only know what the media tells them to want. I believe that most organizations are swayed by what the users want (or think they want) as opposed to what they need. I think that if most users were to actually keep a tally like I do when I test a device, I end up using aprox 6 apps more than 3 times a day, and about 6 once a week or more. The thing is of those core apps, I can get them all on every device (including my PB). Do I really need a Starbucks and Timmies app when Poynt will find anything for me? Do I really need an app that will tell me how healthy my lawn is?

The bottom line is I would much rather sideload an Android app on my PB and wait the few extra seconds for a much nicer experience than have the app load much faster on an OS I really hate.

Is it just me, do I have it right, that the PB and BB10 are a much nicer experience and the rest of the world is wrong and are a bunch of lemming fanboys or maybe my meds just need adjusting.

That's right, encourage more people to leave blackberry. Then they can lay off more people.

    Nope, you're wrong.

The media doesn't have an agenda. They cover what people want and use. And people like iOS and Android. Especially the former.

Part of the problem is momentum and infrastructure/ecosystem. Beta (dating myself here) was superior quality to VHS but lost because they were shut out from a few major studios. The positive side is it survived for years as a specialist product for industry professionals because it was better until digital came along.

Just to add more fuel to the fire...
    1) I agree with eyQ10, Beta was far superior, as was OS2 etc... they died of an industry motivated not by what was a better product but who had the most influence
    2) as for the whole user experience thing... my feeling is that I may be atypical, but I do not believe people use what works for them, as most people do not have the ability as I do to objectively test/choose for themselves. Can you really figure out what interface you like by playing for 5 minutes in a Best Buy, no you rely on the media to tell you what is best
    3) numbers do lie... sometimes (think Enron), having a BComm and working in mgmt, I certainly know how numbers can be influenced/manipulated etc. However that was not the point of my comment, numbers are irrelevant to my comment. This is purely subjective.

The sad thing is that if BB was to close up shop tomorrow, I honestly do not know what my next phone/tablet would be. Nothing else really interests me, nothing else is innovative.

Yup, momentum and the ecosystem has a lot to do with it.

Unfortunately, BBRY discovered the mobile revolution too late, took way too long to change direction, and by the time they finally had a product on the market that was competitive (The Z10) the momentum behind the competitors had gotten too big to overcome.

Of course you can figure out which user interface you like best, after 5-10 min. at a Best Buy.

Another phone/tablet might be better for the particular task you need it for, but if the UI/UX isn't good enough to capture you after a couple of minutes, you'll never find out.

If you don't like the UI after spending a brief time, and figure it out after a couple of minutes, the developers failed.

That's a lesson BBRY should have taken to heart.

I have had a Samsung android a few years ago. Since then I have had 2 curves and a 9860. I now use a z10. For work they gave us windows 8 phones. I also have an I pod touch. In MY opinion - ios and android are more novelty for the masses. Windows phones are blackberry/iphone/android wannabes. The reason I CHOOSE BlackBerry is for the phone itself and how the os seems to work better for me. Everyone's different, I don't think that global domination should have ever entered Blackberry's minds!!. Some reassurance from BlackBerry soon concerning there future would be welcome sooner rather than later.

Just think about what you are saying / asking for a minute. The second you dismiss the rest of the world as "a bunch of lemming fanboys" you automatically become wrong, no matter how well laid out your other premises...or the dose of your meds

They did. I find the UI of BB10 better, cleaner and more useful than any other mobile OS and I have tried them all.

BlackBerry invented the smartphone and began the mobile revolution. They just got complacent and lost it all to others who care more about pleasing users rather than trying to attain technical purity.

I've shown my q10 to May people who've asked "what's that phone" and more than not have said oh that's great and they love the keyboard, the problem is they didn't know that the z10 or q10 even existed and got an iPhone or Samsung htc etc because someone else had one or the people in the phone shop led them straight to something else

I doubt everyone else is wrong about what they like and I doubt you are wrong about what you like. It's a lot more likely that you like different things than everybody else.

That means that Blackberry would be foolish to continue to make what you like. And, if they are listening to a bunch of people like you then they had better prepare to get killed in the market.

Perhaps Blackberry should have taken those potential customers more seriously rather than dismiss them as misguided lemming fanboys. I think they probably thought a lot like you and ran themselves out of the smartphone business.

Why don't we stop with this stuff, asking people to leave because they are or they indicate they will no longer be using a BB. Everybody here is going to be in that position at some point, maybe not for another year or two or three, but the day is coming even for the most rabid and wild-eyed BB fan, and you damned well know it.

Great that you found something that works, but clearly the vast majority feels differently. BB10 doesn't offer them anything better or more interesting than other platforms.

You know how it's like at Beat Buy. Everyone's always using the iPads, Kindles, and iPhones, while the Z10 and Playbook stands are deserted... There's little that grabs people about BB10, and even less that holds them there.

Nope. Blackberry invented an advanced pager, they built a phone with build in email.

And they kept sticking with that, even after 2007 when Apple and Google turned the phone into a pocketable mini computer.

Laziridis and BBRY didn't understand until it was too late, that people might have other needs and uses for computer in your pocket, than just to send and read emails.
