Is it hard to build thinner devices, does it cost more... what could be the reasons?

I know this question might be weird, but what are your thoughts guys?

The battery is normally the deciding factor. The larger the battery, the more power it can deliver.

Ok, but the Z10 doesn't have a big battery at all, or am I wrong?

You are right and that's one of the big complaints about the Z10 - poor battery life for many people.
With my Verizon Q10, I can get about 24hrs, my Verizon Z10 gets about 12 hours.

Ok, Z10 isn't that thick but be honest the Z30 'looks' pretty thick... the next Z- phone should be thinner than the first one in my opinion.

The Z10 to me is the right dimension and fits perfectly in my hand. I would not classify it as being thick.

Once upon a time, phones were big and thick and it made sense to make them smaller and thinner. Today phones are so thin that making them thinner really does not give them an advantage. Actually making them thinner is not really a good thing for the camera optics which would be better off with a thicker phone.

Even the Q10 doesn't seem thick to me as well. I don't see why people want an ultra thin phone too. Wouldn't it make it harder to handle?

Yes, it is harder to build thinner phones as you have to pack the battery, RF and other components into a smaller package.

Its generally recognized that thinner is desirable from a marketing perspective (i.e. a more elegant device).

BBRY are working on this too but a little behind the competition.

They certainly need to work on product appearance as a black slab doesn't measure up to well to the likes of the HTC One say...

When I used a A10/Z30 I did not feel it was thick at all. I don't have any actual meassurements but the rounded edges make it look and feel a bit like SGS 3/4. Beeing a fan of BlackBerry I feel sad to say that the phone IMHO is not a deal-breaker and won't change anything for the company.

it is very hard. Thats why all the very powerful android devices are 4.7 inches and up.
Custom Components versus off the shelf, and of course don't forget about margins.

I personally don't like these thin and light phones. I have large hands, and I feel the Q10 is TINY! And the same for the Z. They're both in Otterbox defenders now. I loved my Q in the softshell but it just felt "odd" in the hand...

I know it's heresy on here but I like phones in the 5" screen size. My GS4 is a perfect width, for me. The thickness - well it's too thin. Again, Otterbox defender saves the day.

But then people were complaining about the nokia lumia 920 being too heavy, or something...

    Sometimes I do wonder! Lol

    Just my opinion ;-)

There isn't a definition when a smartphone is 'thick.' Yes it may be thicker than other phones, but is it too thick? It's part of personal preference. On that note, personally, I think smartphones now are thin enough. Hell, I'll even take thicker phones when they get longer battery life.

    iP5: .30 inches
    GS4: .31 inches

We are seriously debating .04 inches?
