I recently purchased a blackberry 8330. The phone store salesman kindly moved the contacts from my old phone onto my new blackberry. However, there are quite a lot of contacts whom I don't have any interest in having in my phone. Is there any way to sort through the contacts on my PC desktop while the phone is connected to my computer to quickly eliminate the contacts I do not want? I installed Desktop Manager in attempt to do this but it appears this software does not have this ability.
Hi Ilikephoning, welcome to CB. You can manage your contacts, calender, tasks & memos through MS Outlook, then use Desktop Manager to sync across. Once you have setup DM for the first time, you can sync across via bluetooth to save using cable each time. I have the Storm(9500) and this works for me, should be ok with the 8330, but not familiar with that model. Hope this helps.
Will google sync allow me to remove contacts from my blackberry but keep them in my gmail contacts? Or is this software just a method for merging the contacts?

You can turn off the contacts option for Google sync or set it to only manually sync after the initial sync and accomplish what you are asking.
^ that's what syncing usually does... How many contacts do you have? What if you just take 15 minutes to scroll through your contact list on your BB and press "delete"?

If you don't use Outlook, you can also use Desktop Manager and setup your sync to do an ASCII Export. This creates a .csv file on your desktop that is directly editable in Excel. You then reverse the procedure and do an ASCII Import to bring it back in. Make sure to not change or delete any of the field headers. This also gives you a nice way to keep a secure backup of your Contacts.
