LTE coming out in 3 - 5 yrs? lets hope so!

Been doing work research and what not and was having a chat with one of my homies and a couple other cellular head hanchos today at lunch and we were discussing if we will ever see LTE... Now i don't know huge amount on this yet but still doing research.. LTE is 4g networks and apparently u will be able to surf the net much faster on ur phone then on ur own home pc.. I find this stuff soo fascinating..

Everyone stepping up with the HSPA+ but we all know phones wont reach max speeds on this but im thinking if LTE comes out in a few years then our cellular technology has stepped its game up to the peak!

Anyone else know any more on this LTE and care to enlighten us or share any useful info about this?

LTE is probably gonna be here in less than a couple years.

Gues it really depends on where "HERE" is and who your carrier is.

For those of us in the States and with Verizon I expect we will see handsets late next year.

Some folk in the know have dropped mention of LTE devices behind closed doors at certin Expos this year, that leaves me hopeful.

LTE may turn out to be too complex for what the nextgen phones will be.

Today we have several parts to a phone transmission (Voice, data, service messages, etc.). Where we are headed is a single bitstream that handles all these services.

at&t just allowed Skype over dataplan for iPhones. MASSIVE decision. Long Term (pun quite untended) a "built in Skype like app" will probably replace the current separation between voice and data and we end up with packet switched everything to and from our phones.

Why do I think this?

It makes for a simple data structure and more security and a more efficient use of bandwidth.
