As much as I enjoy the banter back and forth about Blackberry's prospects, I do not enjoy the personal and social carnage that is about the befall the poor 4,500 Blackberry staff who are about to be laid off.

I hope they do it with sympathy and dignity and have at lease spent some of their money on provisions for looking after their immediate needs.

My thoughts are with you, for what it's worth.

It really sucks. I understand the company has to do what it has to do but man they had over 18000 employees at one time and after this round its down to under 8000. I feel for them

They have some decent packages. I live in Waterloo and have seen some walk away with hefty sums.

I got retrenched twice from the same company, about 8 years apart. They virtually paid for the house I'm living in now. There is a brighter future girls and guys. Hang in there.

It might be wishful thinking but if BlackBerry does turn things around, they could rehire some of the staff in the future.
