Actually, these fanboy wars get very personal. Witness JeepBB implying someone was brain-damaged for acting in ways that weren't officially approved here.

And if the standards were applied universally (including to staff here), then that would be one thing. But they are not.

Which is an obnoxious thing to say, of course.

But the interesting thing is that even if it were literally true, you can't write it, because someone will be offended by it.

So we dance around a lot of things, depending on who is in power, who their friends are, and who is the squeakiest wheel that runs to the teacher the quickest.

And the people who "win" are not necessarily the ethical ones, but more often than not the ones who do a more thorough job of flouting the spirit if not the letter of the law, and who regularly blow smoke into the most valuable orifices.
