I dont see this legacy comeback happening either.

I think the focus now is on enterprise - get BES10 and BB10 into the hands of business people, force them to use it and they will learn to love it (since BB10 is the best platform IMO). This will translate into more users of the platform worldwide giving blackberry tie diehards (us) and the prosumers which should eventually lead to the popularity rising with regular consumers.

So they are taking 2 steps back, but just in that they are trying to build blackbery up the same way they did it the first time.
Something tells me that forcing people to use a product is not a good marketing strategy.

I have used BlackBerry phones for a long time, and i had to change when there dumb phones could'nt keep up so now that i'm back on BB with BB10 its night and day, trust me when i say i have had all the phones in both cases new and old , i really think you would have to live in the mountains if you wanted to use the old legacy devices there slow , small screens, and if you do any type of communication whether its text, email,FB,Internet, or what ever, the new BB10 is by far the only way to go as far as i am concerned,

Something tells me that none is forced to use a BB10 phone, something tells me the low price (you can get a legacy device for about 50, even though some people have been claiming that the Z10 and Q10 matched legacy prices from they time they dropped to $200 and below) is more of a force to use a legacy device than a BB10

Force means choice is taken away. If you take away the factor of price, many more people would 'choose' BB10 but atm because of price a lot of people are 'forced' to remain with BB7 because they would rather stick to blackberry, some have chosen to go to even cheaper andorid..

I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of posters here reside in Canada, USA and the UK. The question for BlackBerry is whether the foxconn partnership would make a new BBOS phone for Indonesia and other BIS happy zones.

What BD wants is a 9900 upgrade. He is not alone but are there enough to support the development and production costs ? I would guess that Chen is hoping that the Q30 will satisfy the need for a premium QWERTY device.
The infrastructure is there already, more than half the associated costs are already factored in. I see them continuing both platforms. And as the BlackBerry 10 gets better the very slow change over! It's not everyone who gets up everyday and goes phone shopping!

My own thoughts about the trackbalk/trackpad - I don't miss them, and I feel they would hold me back now that I've had the BB10 for a year. Again, just my own feelings on this.
A lot of people say that... but don't say how it would be a bad thing. Adding the trackpad and buttons would make the device about 1 CM longer, but if all the other functionality was identical, how would it "hold you back"? I honestly don't mean to be argumentative, but I do think for every objection you have to the presence of a trackpad / call buttons, there is a counter "argument" well, let's just say I don't mean to ANTAGONIZE, just 'educate'. Put another way: no one has been able to convince me that NOT having the trackpad and hard buttons is better than having them... and I've used a BB10 device (Z10 then Z30) as my daily driver for OVER A YEAR as of last week... so I do know what NOT having them is like... I'd like to find out for real how much I'd HATE having the buttons back but without a BB10 device that has them, how can I know other than how I know that I would not enjoy foods served on "Fear Factor" without having tried them.

If the trackpad and hard-buttons were present could you just ignore them and use the touchscreen, or would they be "in the way"? I wouldn't expect BlackBerry to totally discontinue full-screen devices, just ALSO offer a BB10 device that has the trackpad and call buttons... then everyone would be happy.

Java is dead, QNX is BlackBerry now.

To add, I would love to see an BB10 device with OUT the android run times and see how well it worked, but that would just create more havoc for a brand that is already in the toilet.

Funny that, my "dumb phone" before I bought my first 2g only Blackberry, had 3G, ff camera with video calling, wifi, 5mp rear camera, opera browser and some apps/games.

I don't think you know what dumb phones are.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the Legacy platform, I see more and more talk of it lately on CB.

My prediction is this summer a new BBOS device will be launched, how good will it is debatable, I was very disappointed the last time with the 9720.

It will more likely be positioned as a classic blackberry, Chen is not stupid, he knows there's a market for it, albeit a limited market but why let somebody else cash in on that?

I've started this thread so I can come back this summer and say "I told you so"

    Mark my worlds.

So with the Jakarta scheduled to release in the fall, you are suggesting that this mythical device you speak of will release BEFORE then?

You do realize that literally every blackberry device for the last 5+ years was rumoured or reported about or spotted months in advance of launch???
So you suggest that this will be the first one to sneak through undetected??

How about you put some stakes to your bold claim....
If you are wrong and the Jakarta comes out and there still isn't a new legacy device, leave the community. Make the same promise I did when I was certain there would be no fm in the z10 and others argued with me.

That is, if you're so certain, it's easy to post a thread that you KNOW will raise a stink and get people to post. If this is really about you being certain that this device will come and not about you wanting a trending thread, make the promise and stick to it. I did.

BB7 was great, i bought the Q10 after 6 different legacy devices, i loved BB7

but BB10 is a lot better in so many ways!!

apps or no apps, who cares, the core OS is simply awesome, period!!!!

Are you saying the inclusion of the android runtime is slowing down / affecting the performance of the entire device? Not sure here, but if you let the runtime sit dormant, ie) dont install/run any droid apps, I would think that the runtime would have no/little effect on the phone's performance, no?

Seriously Belfast, how many of these threads do you need.
If you really feel so strongly about this, you should get together some VC funding and approach BlackBerry for licensing BBOS and get the phones made in China. BlackBerry won't have much use for BBOS shortly, so they might just consider it, and if your prediction is even 20% accurate, you would make a huge pile of money for yourself not to mention the everlasting availability of your BBOS device which your own company might make till the end of time.
I for one would never go back to BBOS even if someone paid me to use it. And I loved the legacy BlackBerry devices. I just love BlackBerry 10 more .

Hint one: BlackBerry customers that don't care about apps

Hint two: worried about android apps wen it comes to security.

Helll yea legacy can do mobile computing.

How's this: 9900 on the dashboard running satnav app, bridged to a PlayBook used for browsing and BBM, wifi hotspot on to give an iphone internet connection, all at the same time.

    Isn't that mobile computing?

Edit what do you think mobile computing is and what do you think legacy can't do?

    Hold up.

For one hasn't that always been the case for BlackBerry users? I mean really. We who stuck with the devices from the first BlackBerry should be pretty content with what BlackBerry offers in the app market since that's all we have in BlackBerry. Is that really indication of Chen saying that BBOS will be supported "indefinitely"?

And for two, I don't think he was speaking about the Android runtime in BlackBerry. He's talking the many apps in Google Play Store which BlackBerry has no support of. Those looking for apps are mainly those who come over from other platforms who had the apps they needed but couldn't find it in BlackBerry. You my man is just jumping to conclusions. Oh and you do know Android apps are sandboxed away from BlackBerry apps? They aren't platform apps. Just apps running on top of the OS due to QNX Nuetrino microkernel.

And last but not least, Mobile Computing. Yes you are right that is "Mobile Computing" but not the type BlackBerry talked about during the BB10 launch of BlackBerry Z10 and Q10. The Mobile Computing BlackBerry talked about had to due with the QNX Nuetrino, MDM solutions, and Internet of Things. The PlayBook was just the start of that since it had QNX already embedded from development. It was more of a testing instrument more than anything. Mobile Computing wasn't even brought up until 2013 and it was promoted heavily by Heins when interviewed.
