Once articles surface about how many of RIM's app totals are due to junk apps like the ones listed, it's only going to fuel negative articles about the App World. That is, however, unless RIM has secured many of the top apps much like some are saying. If that is the case, then people probably won't care, as each app store has their fair share of crap too.
Well, the counter argument is that there are just as many bad apps on the Apple and Google store.

    .....
RIM's app push isn't for the benefit of most Crackberry users but rather the very people who have an adolescent need to be secure in their choice of phone and can say "My phone has more apps than your phone."
    Exactly my thinking.
The quantity side of things is simply so at launch, they can say "We have 100,000 apps already!!" Or how many ever they launch with.

Personally, I'm going conservative with 5 percent being "quality" - if we take the 19500 apps (roughly) that were submitted this past Port-a-Thon, that's still 975 apps to try. That's more than the total apps I have across my phone, Playbook, IPad, and Vita combined! I am reasonably confident that I will be able to find something useful in that number alone. In any event, regardless of quality, I think the argument that RIM doesn't have apps is largely mute now. Can't wait to see what's available and what the future will bring for BB10.

How many did Windows Phone 8 launch with? I can never find a definitive source, so many things tell me different numbers

there is a reason why you can't find it since WP8 launched with very little apps. It's like WP8 sales as microsoft REFUSED to release any numbers since the truth is to painful. It's easier to lie with words then to give a number. Which is why microsoft will not even a number.

Spitting out lies in forums is equally easy, isn't it? Windows phone 8 is compatible with WP7 apps, which had a catalog of over 100k apps before WP8 launched. 75k WP8 apps were added in 2012. Microsoft Certified 75,000+ Windows Phone 8 Apps in 2012 | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

That number should be closer to 20k after they tally the apps that were added when they extended the deadline by 2 hrs https://mobile.twitter.com/asaunders...14180716875777
