There are actually two problems:

1. Double typing (two inputs from a single keypress), which can be solved by software and it sounds like it has been solved
2. Hypersensitive keys (multiple inputs from a key by barely touching it -- it doesn't even have to be depressed), which is a different problem, and it is not likely that it could be eliminated by the software fix. There are simply too many inputs in a row.

I have no idea which problem is more common, but in the case of hypersensitive keys, the only solution seems to be to replace (or repair) the keyboard.

I have both. Originally had the q10 and enjoyed it except for the double typing problems. When I started having charging port problems I got a q5 for cheap. The keyboard is more accurate and gives better feedback and no double typing. The q5 screen is better as well. The q10 looks better and has a removable battery. The q10 has more internal storage for apps. If you are an app or game person, the q10 is better. If you only use several apps and no games, the q5 is the better choice.

I agree. The Q10 isn't all that difficult to disassemble, although you have to almost completely disassemble it in order to replace the keyboard. Why they didn't make it so that the keyboard was as easy to replace as the Bold 9900's, I will never know.

That being said, not everyone is confident in their ability to rip apart a phone, and the first time a Q10 comes apart can be the most difficult. Some of the screws have been known to be quite difficult to remove, especially the two holding the keyboard to the screen. So it's worth letting people know that the software fix won't completely eliminate the possibility that a Q10 will require a keyboard replacement.

There is no real reason to get the Q5 over the Q10 when they are both super cheap around the same price. Even at the launch, the Q5 was not cheap enough to be considered over the Q10.

As for double typing in Q10s, the latest software update has fixed the issue.

If something goes wrong in a Q10, it is so much easier to take the phone apart compared to the Q5. The user replaceable battery allows me to keep the phone longer than the life of the original battery.

For me, only the Q10 will work since I need the 4400mah extended battery.

I will add that turn-by-turn has never worked reliably for me with the Q5. Others on the official support forums have the same issue. The gps is fine for finding a location, but not while driving. I've had this issue on 2 devices, so perhaps it is hit and miss.

But yes, if the Q10 is the same price then that's where I would go, provided the Classic is not much more. Otherwise the Q5 is a fantastic, underrated device. It replaced my Z10 as my daily driver.

It is a Mugen extended battery.

It can last any where between 1.5 days to 2 days. Jo matter what you do, you will not kill the battery in one day.

For me personally the update took care of it. I am not sure about others. But BlackBerry took a long time to release that update. During that time the Q5 was the more reliable phone.

Strangely I prefer the q5. Better spacing of the keys and at the bottom of the screen for the swipe up gesture. Also lower occurence of the dredded double typing ou "touch typing"
