iotum is an Ottawa based startup developing Talk-Now, a revolutionary new presence application for Blackberry owners.
Talk-Now lets you: (1) See at a glance the availability of your contacts, (2) Be Notified when someone you need to speak with becomes available, and (3) Share your availability with people trying to reach you without losing control.
Why is this important? Statistically, anytime you pick up the phone to try to reach someone, you have just an 18% probability of connecting with a human being, instead of voicemail. Four out of five calls go to voicemail. Moreover, because of telephone tag, it takes an average of just over 3 attempts to reach people using the phone. It’s remarkably inefficient!
Talk-Now is the first mobile presence application to tackle this issue head-on.
Talk-Now reduces or eliminates telephone tag.
Please accept my invitation to try Talk-Now. It’s FREE to use (except for airtime or data charges), and you can download it to your Blackberry (8700 series, Pearl, or any Blackberry running OS 4.1) by visiting iotum™ | Simply Relevant™
Start your Talk-Now network today.

Jimmy and I downloaded iotum and played around with it for a few days. I think the concept has a lot of potential, but to realize the full effectiveness is of it I think you need your whole network of contacts to be using it and be educated on using it as well - it's the kind of company/application RIM should just buy and then integrate into the phone from factory. As a 3rd party application it's maybe a bit daunting...
BlackBerrySteve did a interview with the CEO of the company - he gives a good overview of the application.
But it's FREE...I say give it a try..I'm curious to see other people's thoughts too. You can always uninstall it if you don't wind up liking it.
Sounds like a great application for a workgroup environment. Of course for fun too however, to realize the full potential of the application...I agree, one would really need a nice size network of people to interface with...

I thought this might be the feeling. I guess for large co-orporations it would also be useful but as Kevin said, what a great application to come already installed on the BB....or certainly have the option of having it turned on or off
