Well, I'm a business owner and an employer, and I'd be very impressed if an applicant asked me this question during the interview. Nobody has had the nerve to do so, the closest they got was ask me after they got hired.

I should qualify my suggestion: you have to read the interviewer. If it's a low-level HR person, reading questions from a script, it's not an appropriate question to ask. The interviewer needs to be a manager that you would be working with directly if you were hired, and this person would need to be comfortable being asked such a question.

This is why the people who get hired aren't necessarily the ones best qualified for the job, but the ones who develop the best rapport with the interviewers. I've been taken in by good interviewees as well, people who did really well during the interview but turned out to be quite useless when it came to getting stuff done. Hiring the wrong person is a very expensive mistake for a company to make, and the interviewer is just as nervous about the process as you are. Well, almost.

So seems BlackBerry is doing some hiring still. I have an in person interview next week. Quite excited and nervous all at the same time. Thought maybe I would post here for some support and good wishes Seems everyone I talk to in person about it are a little less then supportive.

Anyone have any good advice? Haven't been to a job interview in over 10 years so feel like it's all new to me and not sure how things are going to go.

Here is a question I would ask the interviewer: what in my experience is so unique that you couldn't find a suitable candidate internally? This way you can get the interviewer to talk him/herself into hiring you. Leave this one for the end. Good luck.

I'm thrilled to hear this. And no, it wasn't my company. I'm a refugee from one of the Big Five - actually a Y2K casualty. The work I do now couldn't be more different: www.concreteelegance.ca

To top it off today I have had two more phone calls from BlackBerry, first was a phone interview, second was a call from their HR department asking how much notice I would need to give for my current job and what my salary expectations are. Apparently I will know by Tuesday what the final answer is. Fingers are crossed but is looking good!

So one more update, I just talked with HR and apparently I am getting a call early next week and was specifically told it is 'good news'. They are just waiting on final approvals. Hope I am not jinxing myself by saying this, but looks like I got it! (Not sure what else could be good news lol) So just incase my contract does say something specific about how I interact on social media and here on CrackBerry I just want to say thank you to all of you for your support and good wishes! Hope I do the CrackBerry community proud!
