It is possible to send sms texts abroad (almost every mobile phones made in the last 10-15 years can). You may have to call your network to have the international service activated prior to sending the texts. There will be a charge.

Agreed! And, they tend to be a little ridiculous in pricing ...

edit: my experience is only with Verizon on pricing...

All you should need is the country code, to text the UK for example you would replace 01234 123456 with +441234 123456. It will cost more than sending a local text.

o2 uk has a fantastic service, out of my 1000 texts each text i send from abroad will use 4 texts from my bundle and I do not pay unless I go over the allowance They also do not charge to receive texts abroad.

Does that count for unlimited texting as well

Most carriers\networks DO charge extra for international texting so it would be best to check with them exactly what the cost will be.

Your unlimited texting plan will probably only apply when texting within the UK.

On o2 you only get this service free on certain tariffs, they do have an option where you can add on an international texting bolt on though. Perhaps T Mobile UK has something similar.
