Perhaps this is a stupid question, but is it possible to install Android on a Blackberry phone?

A better question is why would you want to? What is one single benefit you would get doing this over just buying an Android phone?

    Thanks for the answers.

I was just curious because I saw someone managed to install Linux onto a Playstation 2 in the past, and Android is a Linux derivative.

Vaguely related, and with apologies for hijacking the thread... Did the attempt to put Android on the Playbook ever get anywhere?

If I could, I'd probably dig my PB out of the drawer and put Android on to it. More as an "interested reader" kind of thing than to save money on a Nexus 7.

I'm also interested if they got anywhere with unlocking the booloader for the Playbook.

As part of their security, BlackBerry locks the boot rom so that no unofficial OS can be installed.... this is great for enterprise where they don't want employees bypassing some security feature or limitation.

It's not necessarily the Android OS that I like. It's the availability of apps and services that I want. Samsung added TouchWiz to their version Android. HTC added Sense. Maybe BlackBerry can make their version with the Hub and the physical Qwerty? That is just wishful thinking.

Lol I've heard horror stories about TouchWiz so I won't go there
