This may be a verizon issue with locked GPS - maybe others can confirm...
Google maps GPS location is always "within 1000 meters" etc on my new Storm 2, but on my friends' Curve (AT&T) , the location is typically within 5 meters.
We were in the same room, and he could actually show me which room he is sitting in, and I my phone doesnt even locate the correct neighborhood!
Make sure you go into options > advanced options > GPS and set the GPS services to Location On and enable location Aiding.
Also check to make sure you have the permissions for google maps set so that it has access to your location information. Options > Applications (choose third party from the drop down box > select google maps > BB menu key > edit permissions.
When I boot up Google Maps, I give it a couple seconds and then hit the blue button. Give it a couple seconds to track onto you and you'll be golden. It isn't an instantaneous thing the first time you start up the program.

That worked! Thank you very much. Now I am down to 10 meters!
