I am fine with the existence of Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. I think BlackBerry has done a lot with BB10, especially with the updates and Android runtime. They may never be what they were, but they put together such a solid option in the smartphone world. My Z10 has been so solid and as an instagram user, the photos have been more than above average. The Hub is second to none and the stability has been more than consistent when measured against the other OS options. I hope marketing of the devices will improve and as BlackBerry users, we should do our best to spread the word. Having choice is what this life is all about and I wouldn't trade my choice for any other option. I hope they stay strong and keep moving forward.

Glad it works for you. That's all we can ask for in a smartphone these days.

I knew that BlackBerry has done right with the BB10S when my teen daughter lamented that she would be in big trouble if BlackBerry stopped making phones, lol. She is quite familiar with IOS and Android.

    Loving my Zed 10!!

So you're content with BlackBerry offering basically an Google Android app loader? They might as well just install Google Android natively. No, I do not want BlackBerry running Google Android natively and I would be happier if the BlackBerry Android Player was killed off. How can we convince mobile application developers to build native BlackBerry OS 10 applications?

You do understand that the Android player is the carrot that leads the Android app developer to bring their existing app to be packaged easily into a BAR file and may lead him to consider the native BlackBerry development tools that can build native BlackBerry10 apps right? Either way, BlackBerry users win because that's one more app added. You can see this right?

Is there any data to show an uptick in native apps since the Android player has been implemented? Serious question. It would be interesting to follow.

So it has to BlackBerry native or nothing at all. The operating system having the versatility to run BB apps and Android applications, is a selling point in itself. It reinforces consumers to buy into the company, because they get security along with their favorite apps.

You can't expect a developer to be on board with a dwindling marketshare. I wouldn't have invested into the BB10 OS if they didn't give me such an option. Amazon, Jolla, and Nokia are able to maintain their own identity, while using the Android free market, so why is it not okay for Blackberry to do it.

Foolish pride and lack of market reality lead BlackBerry down this path, so having openness and versatility is nothing short of excellent in terms of BB10. BlackBerry maintaining their bread and butter while delivering apps from two marketplaces.

BB10 is a lot like owning a Mac. You can't due everything on a Mac, but Wine and Parallels help close that gap in the same way the Android Runtime does for Blackberry.

I would be interested as well.
I noticed that one of the popular book readers (FBReader) was released after the runtime got unlocked.
At that time I speculated that it helped the developers to bring the app over.
I had to purchase a couple of native reader apps and was happy to find that FBReader is free.
