The RIM founders doesn't get much credit they deserve, a lot of sacrifices been done by founders including leaving the company to protect what they believed in..kudos to them and Thor for staying on course and delivering the goods. #BelieveBB10

RIM: If BB10 is a hit, a lot of credit will go to Lazaridis, Balsillie | FP Street | News | Financial Post

A year later, that’s exactly what it looks like. Heins’ master turnaround plan doesn’t involve breaking the company apart and selling it off in pieces. Rather, he’s pushed forward transitioning RIM’s devices to a new BB10 operating system, modelled and built on the QNX software that powers the BlackBerry PlayBook.

It’s hardly radical. The plan is the old strategic blueprint taken straight out of his predecessors’ playbook.

Before their departures, Lazaridis and Balsillie insisted the new operating system would reverse RIM’s losing fortunes. Investors, analysts and consumers didn’t believe them. What RIM needed was a new messenger perhaps more than a new message. If the surging share price is an indication, Heins appears to have succeeded, at least in that regard.

Well, many would say that the founders should have put the plan in motion years ago. Their lack of vision and arrogance caused RIM to be in the hole that it was in last January when Thor arrived to get RIM out of it...

The point is after all that they made some sensible decisions and not succumb to market and investor pressure as in case of Nokia, do you honestly think RIM was planning for bb10 only the last 2 years, they might have had a vision and after all they a need a secured base to start with and it takes time and knack to gather up the key parts and rise up to the occasion

Well, as a long time BlackBerry owner, I see no problem with giving Lazaridis and Balsillie not only credit for my 1st CrackBerry years ago, but, for taking the steps that lead to the pieces being gathered prior to two years ago (you are right). The problem was changes should have happened years ago when ideas were dismissed and mistakes made which lead to Lazaridis and Balsillie losing credibility with the public, shareholders, and the media. Karma: Things happen for a reason with the pieces of the puzzle being assembled- as a "finished product" by Thor along with a new platform. For that I say thank you to the new/prior CEOs as well as his team at RIM that sacrificed (unfortunately, some with jobs) in order to make this happen later today. Looking forward to a successful launch.
