Is it possible to put an icon on my homescreen that would open up to the contents of my media card? I am thinking of a folder just labeled "media card" that would let me view (explore?) The contents of my media card.

If you have FileScout installed on your phone you can set it through the general settings for it to open up to your media card.
I don't know of any other way to do it via a shortcut or any thing like that on the phone itself. I would tend to think you can't unless it could be themed that way but I haven't seen it.
