I want BlackBerry to offer the Z10 as a player. My daughter is too you for a phone and her friends have ipods. I use a BB as does my wife and most of our family members. If I could buy a Z10 and give her BBM capabilities I may be able to win the battle of no icrap products in the house.
Can I buy the Z10 and make it work?

Just buy a Z10 and use it on WiFi only.

It is what I do with all of my BlackBerry 10 devices. Not sure why BlackBerry would need to make a player. Just don't put a SIM card in it, and you've got an iPod touch like device.

But as a father who doesn't like Apple products let me give you some advice. Buy your kid an iPod. She won't be happy with a Z10 once she sees all of the apps and games her friends use that she can't use on her Z10.

I don't like Apple, but my kids love their iPods and still to this day call them the best Christmas present they've ever received. I personally care more about making my children happy than not giving my money to Apple.

The iPod is pretty much the top player in this category, no one that can really compete against now.
Even now that most people only use their phones and that companies are trying to bundle it into the phone as good as possible

Buy it, download music, add BBM and voila. I use it for music - everyday. Can't help you with what others say or think. My advice, go for it.
