So long as the Browser and Evernote integration with Remember works and I can access Dropbox, Box and One Drive, I prefer BB10 and will continue to enjoy it. But once those stop working, I'll be moving to Android, and I'm very happy BlackBerry has ported the apps it has to make that easier.

There is little doubt that for some BB10 meets all their needs, and really I see no reason for them to move away from BB10 at this point.

I do think that a year ago, more support from the BB10 crowd for the PRIV might have allowed BlackBerry to stay in business... but that's a moot point now. And I agree it was a hard device to support based on price and some of the common issues.

One of Blackberry's biggest problems has been the incredible build quality and OS efficiency of their phones. I've kept most of mine for 3-5 years and only replaced them when higher speed wireless technology made it an obvious choice. I still find my 2013 Z10 snappy and responsive, whereas my iPad from the same year feels like it's been filled with molasses it's so slow.

I have my iPad available, but if I need to look something up on the Web, the Z10 is more than twice as fast.

(btw, ... Where is BlackBerry Productivity suite for iOS at?)
    Oh yes!

It may be shameful, but I'm honest enough to admit my joy.

And honestly, if anyone is still at this stage expecting a BB10 revival, despite literally years of accumulating evidence that BB10 is not going anywhere, then I'm worried for their grasp on reality.

Didn't know the Secusmart Tablet had HUB+ Especially when it came out long before BlackBerry even went Android. Too be honest I haven't heard anything about that Tablet... other than there were plans to release it. Anyone ever see one?
The secusmart product is a hi-grade security product developed by a German company that BB acquired. It's not really a consumer product as it costs over $2k for the Samsung tablet which IIRC incorporates cryptographic hardware too.

I doubt they sell in any volume, but I'm sure they do sell to the specialist sector they're aimed at.

Whether BB intends to bring any of that technology to say protected BBM, I really don't know.

Strategy Analytics just released 3rd quarter 2016 global sales report. Android 88%, Apple 12%, with BB10 and Windows off the map entirely.

I'm sure Apple would like more market share, but Apple still makes the most money off their sales as they still own the hi-end customer base. Or has that changed?

Perhaps, but Apple is down from 15% in the first quarter.

It hasn't. Last I checked, they reap 90% of the profits in the smartphone industry, with Samsung picking up the scraps. But, you know, they're doomed or something.

Duopoly approaching near monopoly outside of North America?

There is just something about a free operating system that drives the marketplace.

I still prefer bb10, but should spend more time learning the what all this app hype is all about with my fancy dancy sliding privledged android blackberry. Haven't touched it other than auto loading android m on it.

There is no benefit in going from BB OS10 to android. Anyone disagree?
I still use my passport. But BlackBerry's ineptitude in software becoming more apparent to me. I tried the Android hub+ for about a month. That's their flagship Android app.

Yet neither it nor the BB 10 hub are as good at handling emails as Aquamail in my opinion. I also tried Microsoft Outlook for some time as well.

Can't believe one dev can outdo blackberry and Microsoft on a good email client.

I still like bb10 but I just can't tolerate how it feels compared to my nexus 6p running Android 7.

For the community, it seems like, up until the DTEK's, most people felt the devices were overpriced. As for the devices, it feels like these were missteps in timing:

    - Z10, when the community wanted a Q10/Classic
    - Passport, when people didn't have the imagination to accept something so different
    - Z3, when people wanted a Z30 follow-up
    - PRIV, when people wanted a BB10 slider, based on the mock-up
    - going Android when BB10 seemed to reach a very usable maturity

They needed to have gone Android back in 2012. They needed to have good hardware that was competitive with the iPhone or Samsung in 2012 going forward. All of their devices after the 9900 were not competitive. The market for BB10 devices has long since disappeared. Not even a good Z30 would have helped.

That excerpt makes no reference to advertising directly.

It makes sense that if you're using a third party app for example, and that app needs access to your data to operate, then you'd have to permit the sharing of your data to that app.
Except that it says that Blackberry will share your information with that third party and that you are subject to that third party's privacy policy.

I wasn't commenting on what they "should" have done (that's been discussed to death, always with hindsight), but rather what they released versus what the userbase expected/wanted at the time at that moment. For example, they decided to release the Z10 first, while their userbase was on mostly 9900's and were expecting something to upgrade to that wasn't a drastic departure from what they already know. They teased the slider form-factor and people were expecting a BB10 slider, but instead, the PRIV was Android. People didn't give the PRIV a chance because they expected BB10.

If BlackBerry had to shut down their handset division and concentrated only on Software, they should have continued with bb10 and then just upgrade the bb10 with bb11, as now they are software. Why Android.??

First they invest money on bb10 to the point it matured enough and then suddenly left and went Android to secure it. And after a year handset business done. Lol.

You can't have targeted ads without data collection.

I feel that Google has better firewalls, privacy policies, and security governance than any government, bank, or medical practitioner that I deal with.
this is pretty delusional in my opinion. Security has been mentioned, but there's also privacy. Add in that google has your contacts and uses the phone # of your device for play services and you can start to understand the web google is weaving. Ive seen you post enough that I am sure you understand and you are clearly not concerned. To each their own, but there's no getting that genie back in the bottle. If not BB10, I'll look to CM or maybe a flip phone that has hotspot capabilities will hit the market. I think samsung is the only company though that has produced a wifi 4g flip phone. Now if I could get a BB skinned CM android phone with the pico play services (or none), I might be interested, but that's not gonna happen. my preference at the moment is a CM nexus 7 set up with a disposable phone #. Again, to each their own. I def have no answer for the "need apps for my job" situation, other than maintaining 2 phones, which personally would be my choice.

OP is a little delusional himself. I admit the writing has been on the wall for quite sometime, but I prefer the OS, fear google, love the pkb and really like the devices. I know it's likely a matter of time, tho this wait for 10.3.3 makes me wonder about what else could be going on under the hood.

BB10 was a dead end road.... Chen knew that long ago, that's why this move to Android probable started over two years ago now.

They tired to license BB10... no one was buying. BB10 had huge potential, if they had not started cutting development back at the end of 2013... we might be on BB11 right now. A stable 64 Bit OS with an Android 6 Runtime.... and still no apps.

How do you license a product that has to steal access to some other products apps? If BB10 started becoming a success... how hard do you think it would be for Google to block SNAP and Cobalt? Then what would you have? Sorry but the number of customer that would settle for just email, texting and phone calls.... is not large enough to support the development of BB10 or the licensing of it.

Nothing.... this wait is a result of how hard it is to make changes to an OS... when you don't have a full development team.

BB10 was like a Jenga tower.... you mess with one module, say the phone and then the contacts app starts misbehaving, you fix the contacts app than the HUB won't work right....... BlackBerry had problems when there were hundreds of people working on the OS, and when you had whole teams assigned to handle individual "modules".

10.3.3.... either flunked certification the first time, or they had major issues getting a stable version released for testing. And fixing and resubmitting was very time consuming.

But what makes more sense...... That BlackBerry is shelving BB10, or that they are madly working to improve it... just so eight million or so BB10 users can get a little upgrade on their aging EOL devices?

You wan't something extra... it will probably be the change to the version number to 10.3.4 and the announcement that BB10 is now EOL. I expect the end of hardware, means the end of BB10 development and a end date for support of BB10, and Android powered device by end of the next fiscal year.
