BlackBerry Protect used to have this capability in 7.1. Anything 10.0 above no longer has this. Bummer.

You can use iCloud, Gmail or any other service that supports CardDAV to keep your contacts in sync.

When you hook it up to link look into the left menu

It says contact and calendar...use that option

    I flick! Do you?

Check out "Fire Chest Backup". I don't think it's a cloud service but it's an alternative to BlackBerry Protect.

Is BlackBerry Link not an option?

I was under the impression that Protect was carried over from OS7 to BB10. If thats not the case I will have to seriously reconsider my Z30 acquisition. I rely so much on that backup as it covers pretty much everything, not just contacts.

I use my Outlook email account, and someone earlier just mentioned Gmail. Why not go one of those routes? Is there a disadvantage as opposed to using something like iCloud?

    FireChest !!!
It works brilliantly and syncs to your Dropbox and you can encrypt that backup. And it's FREE. You honestly can't go wrong with this app

Check out Fire Chest Backup in BlackBerry World! You can find it at http://appworld.blackberry.com/webst...ntent/37188889

Many of the free email services - Gmail, Outlook.... will sync your contacts. So if you forget to do a Backup using Link or another App, there is no problem.

They did. It was called BlackBerry Protect but they absolutely destroyed it for BlackBerry 10.
They really need to fix it because link is awful

I agree. BlackBerry Protect was the cat's meow. It worked perfectly for restoring. So wish it was available with BlackBerry 10.

Fire Chest Backup will allow you to backup your phone to the cloud (Box / Dropbox) or SD card. Below is a preview of the upcoming version 2.0. We are still in process of adding more options like SMS, bookmarks etc...

I think for platform friendly, consider using Outlook.com. I previously used Gmail for contacts and calendar. However, I realized Google has been less friendly (especially for those on iOS, because the support has been cut, you have to create a CardDav and CalDav).

However, it is not a problem on Outlook. It works fine on iOS, Windows Phone (definitely) and Blackberry 10. However, if you're using Android then of course that goes without saying to use Gmail. Having said that, I have friends who store their contacts on Gmail and it syncs fine with their Z10

FireChest syncs to Dropbox and uses caldav and carddav, that makes it suitable cross platform
Also this means you can import the calendar into outlook, so also suitable crossplatform
