Ummmm this is the first time i have heard this but then again i have only had my BB for a lil over a month... now i am aware that if you are being charged for a crime of some sort and they have a warrant that allows them to aquire this information they can have your Service Provider give them a print out of your call and text logs... but again this requires a valid warrant...

dont believe everything you hear...theirs alot of mis-informed individuals out there... Welcome to Crackberry!!

    Heard from where?
Who in the h3ll is they?
How are anyone's text messages tied
    to their home address?

A bit more critical thinking, a bit less
paranoia might be in order. Unless of
course you've been hanging out with
    Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Or as patrick.waugh said and I paraphrase:

Don't type anything on your BB that
you don't want to see on a 4'x4'
    whiteboard, from the witness stand.

And they went deep on that guy.
Texts from like five years ago. DAYUM!!

Yes they can, with proper authorization. But that's the key.

Also, each provider determines for how long they will store messages.
Some less than two weeks, some a year. His provider was on what
I think could be called the "in perpetuity" schedule.

Or maybe it's a classic case of transference. He's knows he has nothing to worry about from you, but the skeletons in HIS closet would embarrass a museum.

Text messages maybe but definetly not emails. It's encrypted and nobody can decrypt it (except the owner BB)...still I dont know if they can see exactly what msg you sent or just the fact that you sent a msg to a certain person at a certain time...

They can not only see who you sent the text to, but the content of that text.
    Every
    Single
    Word
That's what the whole Detroit Mayor reference is about.
