It just so happens I have an 8900 and 9000 in my possession for testing. I know, I know the age old Bold/Javelin post. The reason Im posting here is because, although I really, really want to like the Bold, the Javelin is just the intuitively better choice, in terms of form factor and (subjectively) keyboard familiarity (Im coming from an 8310).
My only real problem with choosing the Javelin is the fact I have a data plan. Is it insane to choose the Javelin over a 3G device like the Bold when I am paying Rogers $30/month for data? I havent been able to find any EDGE/3G 8900/9000 speed comparisons online, although I have seen posters mention that the Javelin runs advanced edge, and therefore its not too much slower than the Bold. Id like to exclude the whole wifi makes up for 2G argument for now, since I am on the road often enough that Ill have to rely on a cell connection. Can anyone chime in here? Has anyone else struggled with this choice?
I am also thinking about doing a video comparison of the two phones, since Ive been using them both heavily over the past week.
I feel your pain, One week ago I had both devices in my hands for the very same thing. I felt the 3G difference to be a BIG thing for me. Both have wifi, though I found the form factor of the 8900 to be a little more for the texting, internet browsing young crowd. The Bold feels more sturdy and more of a Business platform phone. It felt like holding a PDA (BOLD) in my left hand and something like a VOYAGER in my right hand. Both are very good devices, I think the personal fit is what makes the decision for you though, not what people write on here. Tell you what though, RIM did a very good job at making this a hard decision for a lot of people.
Good luck on your decision making. Try one for 2 days and then the other. See what happens.
Either way you go, you will have a great phone.
Personally, I prefer the 8900. It has an excellent autofocus camera, advanced EDGE, (fast enough for me, but I wish it had 3G for tethering), and the smaller form factor.
