    When you're in a phone call, data won't work. Is that why?

    Is this via BBM or SMS? Call the carrier and find out what might be happening, also check that you have the proper data plan and that you already tried a battery pull.

    Have you tried deleting and re-adding him? That might do the trick. Maybe you might want to give the carrier a call to see if there's not anything strange going on with BIS.

    Called the carrier yet? That's the first thing that I did when I had the same problem with my pearl the first 2 months of service on telus.

    Well I now see all my symbols too. Never noticed was missing.Like up in the corner right side, blackberry symbol. Re invited contact as well. Will see how this works. Next step is to call the carrier. I do appreciate your help. I am grandmother of 11, this is how I stay in touch with kids and grandkids. Technology WOW Thanks again. Getting all kinds of stuff now.
