you're posting on a blackberry forum. a lot of the people who respond are going to be biased toward blackberry, including me.
9800.
A physical keyboard is way better than virtual this coming from useing an HTC HD2 I even tried a keyboard app it made little difference, I will be buying the Torch new generation and my family will go BB too. But each to their own.
Of course I would say go with the BlackBerry Torch. I own a Torch and I have never been more in love with a BlackBerry before.
I considered the HTC Desire at one time, but decided I really didn't need all the app junk or the cheap thrills that come along with the whole Android platform. I also own an iPhone and a Samsung Captivate. I don't like anything that doesn't have a physical QWERTY keyboard on it. The keyboard on the BlackBerry is very nice and comfortable. Even when the size changed - I adapted quickly and smoothly to the new size.
As far as speed goes - I know I am still anxiously anticipating the new Bold 9900 and the Torch 9810 for that. But just how fast do you really need your phone to be? No matter how much RAM you have or how fast the processor is - when it comes to making and receiving calls - well - that speed really depends on your carrier. AT&T will not be your carrier if you want a whole lot of poor and no signal strength. (AT&T is my carrier so I'm speaking from personal experience on that.) If you're a social networker or social gamer - you prolly want to go with the Desire. But if you like fiddling around with your phone and tweaking it up and down, and maybe trying out new things - then the Torch is the device for you.
I'm sure that everyone here will have a nice BlackBerry biased opinion about which device you should choose. I feel that the device you choose is a matter of personal choice. It all depends on what you want from your device or what you need your device to be able to do for you. As far as device capabilities are concerned BlackBerry devices are just as capable (and in most cases - even MORE capable) as all the rest of the devices out there. BlackBerry devices may take a hit in the speed department in some rare instances - but that all depends on just how many millionths of a second you feel you need to shave off your time for getting on the Internet while you're on your phone.
Choose the Torch!
Peace....
I spent +/- two hours at the ATT store the other day splitting time between the Inspire (Desire HD), Atrix (Atrix), and 9800 (Torch).
If you want battery life - Get the Torch or get ready to Root and modify the Desire HD
If you want almost anything else - Get the Desire HD.....the HTC Sense keyboard is downright amazing (not even considering the fact that its virtual). It would still be amazing for a physical keyboard. And Sense offers some pretty cool features. And even if Sense isnt for you there is the option of other bootloaders, rooting and many other ways to tweak and fiddle with your device (if that's your cup of tea).
If you find yourself really liking the Torch more - I would suggest waiting to see if your respective carrier will be getting the 9810 soon. No use extending yourself for 1-3 years with a device thats already being replaced.
