Is this possible? I can't stand the suretype. I can't even type out my email account. Also if I have a # in my password how do I type this.
    thanks!

Welcome to CB. I don't believe there is any way to disable suretype. If it bothers you that much, you might want to get a different phone, like the Curve.

You can enable multitype by just pressing menu in whatever screen you are typing, scroll and you will see an enable multitype option.

Personally I wouldn't do it, I had to once and it almost killed me when I forgot to go back to my suretype, but to each his own,.

Go To Options-Language-Input Language. Change it from English (United States) to English (United States - Multitap).

i definitely would not want to disable suretype. its the main reason i love my pearl. if youre having trouble typing phrases like your email address, etc, just "train" the phone to recognize and automatically input those phrases by adding them to the dictionary. done and done!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I just received a blackberry pearl, and while it was ok sometimes, it was driving me nuts overall. I felt it really slowed me down. Thank you for this tip!!!

Yes, my Storm's help page outlines the above procedure, however the Input Language choices do not include anything with Multitap.

The phone seems to randomly default to either multitap or suretype and I never know which mode it's in till I start typing.

This is a pain in the buttocks!

BTW, I've got the latest Storm firmware.

I keep my 8100 permanently on multitap. Until I did that this phone was in seriously in danger of being straight armed into the wall. Suretype is better than T9 but I have always used multitap on other phones. Now I also have AutoText and that is just fantastic.

When I first got my Pearl I was a little confused on how the whole suretype thing worked. I found this site that helped me out a bunch, the author does a 3 part article on typing with the Pearl, it may be helpful to you.

Since I notice the OP question wasn't answered about typing a # in password, I'll do it. Just press the Shift key (bottom left), there should be an arrow at the top right of your screen, and select whichever number you want.
