How are people so shocked about the quarterly results?
- What exactly were you guys expecting? We all knew that BB10 wasn't going to catch on like wildfire upon it's release. Hell, I don't expect to see people with BB10 devices commonly for the next year or so. Don't forget, this is a company that has the hardware, but unfortunately does not have the most popular applications (as we all know), and therefore is working to rebuild it's own image. They're in a catch 22 right now, people don't want to buy the devices because of the lack of applications, and people don't want to code the applications because of the lack of people.
Please everyone, take a step back from the edge of the cliff. There's no need to jump just yet. We're allowed to be optimistic about the growth and rebirth of a company. My guess was between 2.5-3.5 million devices sold worldwide, and I was admittedly hoping for more, but my expectations were in range. Yes, iOS and Android devices are outselling BB10 a bazillion to one, that's common knowledge, no need to bring it up. iOS and Android have also been around a while, so while BBRY was laying back and staying complacent to the changing smartphone world, these guys were running away with it, and we all know that it didn't happen instantaneously.
All I'm getting at here, is let's relax. Yeah, we're all pissed off about BB10 not coming to playbook. I'm not, however, singing the companies gloom just yet. It's going to take some more lumps before it comes back stronger. All we can try to do is spread the word.06-29-13 06:26 PMLike 9 - I don't think it was the sales numbers that passed people off as much as the PlayBook issue.
They could have made that announcement at BlackBerry live I mean you can't tell me they didn't know then that it wouldn't be coming and there's a good chance there stock wouldn't have plummeted the way it did.
Posted via CB1006-29-13 06:36 PMLike 0 - I agree OP.
As much as I wanted to see my shares increase, this did not "shock" me. I saw the expectations grow and grow but stayed the course. People get all lathered up and when it doesn't measure up to their own inflated idea of where it should be it turns into the sky falling.
I get it if you want to jump and run to another platform. Free country, your choice, go ahead. Me? I love my Z10 and do not feel as though my GF just cheated on me.
Move forward people.06-29-13 06:42 PMLike 0 - Yea, it's all drama or intentional flaming and slamming of Blackberry by other platforms' (or financier-scammers') propaganda machines. I mean, what's everybody's biggest worry? "Oh no, what if I spend a couple hundred bucks (or less) on a device and the company goes out of business in the two or three year contract period?" Ridiculous.06-29-13 06:48 PMLike 0
- On the bright side, for once we're not talking about how bad and behind the times the product is. BlackBerry is a broken brand right now, and the transition will be long and painful at times. But you have to start somewhere and build on it.
It would be interesting to know if the results are on par with BlackBerry's own internal forecasts and expectations.last_attempt likes this.06-29-13 06:52 PMLike 1 - What exactly were you guys expecting? The recovery is not over. The challenges are real and we will know more in a couple of more quarters. BBRY can still come back, and it can still fail. No matter how you slice it, this quarterly report was not good. I am staying "long" on my investment but let me share this personal observation, "Hang on to your seats, it is gonna be a wild ride!"
Posted via CB10 via my Z1006-29-13 07:01 PMLike 0 - I would expect the company to give that impression. Do you want to invest in a company that is not confident in itself? Where the leaders are not proud of what they have to offer? Thor comes out with tears in his eyes and weeps. I want him to come out and say, yeah, we offer the best ******* products you can find, we are actually building up the application situation with relevant applications, so buckle up bozos, **** is about to get real up here in waterloo.
Posted via CB1006-29-13 07:31 PMLike 0 - I think a lot of people here hold stock in BlackBerry. For those of us who just love the gadgets (call us suckers) we will happily carry on whether BlackBerry is in third place, fourth place or 100th place in the 'market' and whether shares are $1 each or $100 each, as long as support carries on! :P06-29-13 07:33 PMLike 0
- I want the company to do well. If they don't, it just shows how stupid the majority of these hipsters are that gallivant around the world like they have a clue.

But as I've said in other posts, you only get momentum and hype for a new product once. And we are disappointed and feel slightly cheated because the company was telling us they would sell "tens of millions" of units. They told us they were "selling out" and many iphone and android users were buying BBs. Finally, take a look at the last podcast by the Crackberry guys. Even they looked concerned and are saying the same things being posted on this subject.
We just all need to stick around with our Z10, Q10, or BB7 and ride it out with the company at this point. Been there done that with the Palm Pre already.bekkay likes this.06-30-13 12:29 AMLike 1 - Yeah I agree. I am definitely not shocked. Was I hoping for better? Absolutely!!! but overall it will take time to rebuild the company brand name in the consumers eyes.
I for one am going down with the ship and will ride this out until the end. I think the non release of the BB10 OS on the PlayBook was a simple business decision and applaud Thor for not putting a poor experience on the PB because he said he would. They will need a game changer and I don't know what that is but I hope they do
