i use the standby mode, by pressing the mute button on the top, seems like it also makes the battery last longer.
The keypad lock is not hard to access, but if you have the phone in your pocket, and the keys get pressed, it will turn on the backlight and keylight, and will drain the battery quicker..
I'm a pocket carrier and I've always used the keypad lock. I never thought about the standby mode. Does it come back on when a message or call comes through using standby?

I would also like to know im a pocket person and i use the keypad lock activates after 5 mins seems fine to me but that stand-by key might be better. I just have it so people cant access what i have on the phone.
i use to lock my keypad with a pass and what not. till the most horrible day of my life. when for some crazy reason my pass wouldnt work. and my fone master reset. so i just use stand by. its true it conserves battery life.
I lock my keyboard as well. I have a lot of confidential information in my contacts, so if it ever gets lost, then I can feel "better" that the information will be safe.
