Recently had someone call me from YEARS BACK, and was wondering if its time to change my phone number. How long have you had your number for?? Mine is bordering 10 years!
I had my old number (401)-741 style which was what a lot of the original Verizon number around here were back when Motorola Startac was the shizz, until 2008. Now I went on another plan, ended up canceling due to employment issues, and now I'm back with a third number.
I hate telling people I have a new number, it's like pulling teeth.
11 years here and that's only because we moved to a different state. If we never moved we would still have the same cellphone/home phone numbers for close to 20 years
Ive had mine ever since ive been with sprint. About ten years. Now.
LOL how can you deal with Sprint for that long? I've had my current number for about 4-5 years, but I'm only 23. Been through Cingular/AT&T, Centennial, and now Verizon with this number.
I've had the same cell # since I got my first "bag phone" (no laughing now) about nineteen years ago, and through numerous newer phones ever since.
Personally, to me it would be a bigger pain in the hiney to get a new number out to everyone who I want to have it, than to worry about the occasional "blast from the past".
Even my ex still has my number, but even with that, I don't think it would be worth the hassle to change it. Not to me anyhoo.

It's been 10 years for me too :-) instead of changing my phone number I added "Family Allowances" offered by T Mobile. Not only is it good because my daughter is entering teenhood, it allows me to specifically block who I no longer want to talk to. I keep numbers on my SIM card a long time too just in case they call they'll show up on my caller id that way I can choose to answer or not.

I got sober on 7/23/2002, and changed my cell number at that point, too many of my druggie "friends" had it. Been my current number ever since. Mostly filled up with people in recovery now, and normies of course.
over 10 years here... i have had the same phone number since i got my first cell phone as a freshman in high school in '98. wow, it doesn't seem like it's been that long!
about 1 1/2 years now, since I signed this contract.
well, it's actually been kinda hectic, as for 6 months earlier I was bouncing from Virgin Mobile to Petro-Canada (I kept on killing the phones, accidentally and because I couldn't stand them), then once I had my Blackberry I had the number for a while even after I killed the phone and had to buy a replacement, but there was one time where I had to set up a prepaid account in order to loosen the restrictions on a Samsung Link (so that, in a couple weeks, I could put THAT on my contract).
I'm really surprised by these results so far. I would have thought that since subscribers only became allowed to port their numbers between carriers over the last few years, the average would have been pretty low (around 3-5 years)
Nearly 4 years now with this number and Sprint. Plan on having it until the end of time (or when phone numbers become obsolete, haha) It is the BIGGEST hassle to tell people you've got a new phone #
I am sure it's been at least 10 years, but maybe more. Basically it's been so long I can't remember exactly! I started out with Suncom back in 1998 when I was old enough to get a cell phone with only my credit, no co-signer/parent. I dumped Suncom once my contract expired, and went to Verizon. I had to give up my old Suncom cell number, because back then no one did number porting to other carriers. So I've been on my current cell number for at least 10 years now.
I've had mine over 11 years... it's been great not to have to tell people that I have a new number. Had I not moved cities... that number would have been closer to 15 years...
