Hardly, because BBAndy would never have got past a interns laughable suggestion of such tie up.
BlackBerry has built up a considerable portfolio of software because of its foray into Android.

They now have a potential recurring revenue stream from licencing and subscriptions of Android software.

They also have a potential way of monetizing their keyboard patent which was basically useless when tied to BB10 devices.

With the hand dealt by years of Mike/Jim/Thorsten, and without a time machine, what other path would the hemorrhaging-billions BlackBerry of November 2013 have other than retreat or bankruptcy?
Well, they did put themselves up for sale, so that was another option. Couldn't manage to sell the company though. I bet they just didn't market it well enough.

Isn't Android the smartphone platform where mobile developers have a hard time making any money and that most successful apps are free?

Is the reason we don't have any keyboard smartphones because BlackBerry held all the patents?

ERM...we had BB10 with keyboards, it was not 'basically useless' after BBOS

What is the point of comparing revenues with BIS? It was gone anyway.

The keyboard has value now because of the Android drivers and software that BlackBerry had to code when moving to BlackBerry Android hardware (Priv). It can now be licenced to Android device makers.

They seem to have as much value as buggy whip patents.

Why do companies compare revenue inside and out ? Survival, market share, shareholders etc etc

A virtual BB keyboard... another Andy keyboard is setting no revenue on fire for BB, ever.

They have as much value as a free Play keyboard, maybe if they make the BB KB virtual people will move over to BB hardware, just like the BBOS users moved to BB10 $uce$$

Oh no hold the press, the hardware division ends 2016....

We'll see I guess. I would tend to agree, but Chen seemed to suggest he had a licencing deal in place already for the keyboard.

What now? Why compare a new revenue stream to an old, almost defunct revenue stream? You do what you can today, and going forward.

I'm not talking about the virtual keyboard. I'm talking about licencing the physical keyboard hardware and software to Android device partners.

Ugh,your probably right. Not that it matters now as its all water under the bridge but seeing what happening now I wish they had stuck with bb10 with one pkb model and one non. Maybe with larger screens like the pp had so that a good browser could get some people over the app gap?

You honestly think a BB keyboard licence is going to appease shareholders? Its small fry, $25 million a year tops, AND that is a very high overestimate.

angry? Lol, professional, looking at overpaid idiots, love my BBOS/BIS, love my BB10 - hate all the underspec hard tech.

The software works, the slap dash hardware its put on has never lived auto its software - that's BB problem. Even outsourcing it offers nothing to the competition/market in spec with cheaper production.

Miniscule revenue for maximum dilution of BB brand, not that that damage isn't high enough.

    Nope.
Android had a great keyboard device, which many preferred over a BBKB, in the Milestone.

The masses just didn't want it.

Smartphones are a business, not a charity. if 500 people prefer touch screen and 5 people prefer pkb, then OEMs are not going to service the 5 people
