Is your device encrypted until you enter the password to unlock the phone?

If someone were to hack your phone and bypass the password, would they see all your files in encrypted form?

I'm just to manually encrypting and decrypting so I'm not sure at what point in the process the files and media card become unencrypted.

Your password is essentially the decryption key to your data. All that entering your password does is allow you to access the data.

If the password isn't entered there's no way to access your data in a meaningful way.

After re-reading my post, I can see where there could be some password=encryption key confusion. Thanks for clearing it up.

Overall, encryption is a good thing for any device you have that stores personal information of any kind. Along with my Q10, my PlayBook, and laptops are all encrypted.

Encryption only works when you have it turned on which accesses your ECC keys. If not on then your phone is only using RSA keys which is the standard encryption. Through BlackBerry's encryption you are given the options to encrypt your device or your SD card. I usually have device encryption on but also use the other.
