How do I turn off GPS to save battery. Did it once and forgot. Thanks.
Options->Adv. Options-> GPS -> E911 Only -> Location Aiding OFF. :)
Thanks for the rapid response.
My pleasure =)
in order to save battery u can also change ur mobile network to 1XEV instead of global by going to options>mobile network>network technolgy>choose 1XEV
it seems to help :)
I have read in the forums and believe it that just having GPS enabled will not cause the battery to run down. However, using a program such as google maps will drain the battery
depends. having Google Maps running in the background will not use GPS. it'll only activate once you actually open Maps and let it look for a position. if you're not actively using an app that uses GPS, it shouldnt use any power.
Turning your GPS to 911only will not help you save much battery if any. The reason for that is unless you are running an app that is constantly using the GPS like BBmaps or even some weather programs. So in short turning the GPS off is not the best way to save battery life. For more effective ways turn coverage to 1XEV not Global, lower you brightness setting to 10 or 20 and always make sure to close any app that you are not using. Also make sure to only have Bluetooth and WiFi on while you are using them but turn them off as soon as you don't need them.

berrymike is right, it's the screen that sucks the life out of the battery. Even dropping to 70% brightness gives a healthy boost to battery life.
I use Wattpad as an EBook reader and I get an extra couple of hours at 70% screen brightness.
If you stay signed in to Google Latitude via Maps, it will use GPS, even while idle & in the background.
does changing it from global to ev1 really make a difference? I asked a support tech and they said no, but hey.... I always thought it was possible
It will make a difference if your phone loses the CDMA signal occasionally, in which case it will try GSM for a while. This is pointless if you are using the SIM that comes with the Storm (1 or 2) and are in the US or Canada, since that SIM does not allow roaming on any US/Canada GSM system. Changing to EV tells the phone to not bother looking on the GSM side.
